Hello everyone i want help deciding bw 2 laptops... i have a limit of 1500 with total price... with tax!

1) Msi gt725-074
Price $1349

Specs

Operating System: Windows Vista Home Premium
CPU Type: Intel Core 2 Duo P8600 2.4G
Screen: 17" WSXGA+
Memory Size: 4GB DDR2
Hard Disk: 320GB
Optical Drive: DVD Super Multi
Graphics Card: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4850
Video Memory: 512MB DDR3 VRAM
Communication Modem, Gigabit LAN and WLAN
Card slot 1 x Express Card
Dimensions 15.56" x 10.95" x 1.04-1.38"
Weight 7.35 lbs.
Plus a 4.1 audio system .1 as in a mini woofer!
Also 3yr overall warranty

That is the msi gt725-074 and by the way its a 4850 512mb, and it has a overclock by a button feature which makes i go to 2.8ghz on the cpu.

2) Asus G51VX-RX05
Core2Duo 2.0GHz
Display Type:WXGA 15.6 widescreen 1366 x 768
System Bus:1066MHz
Memory: 4GB-DDR2
Hard Drive: SATAHard Drive 320GB
Optical Drive Double-layer DVD±RW/CD-RW
Graphics:NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260M
Video Memory:1GB DDR3
Price $999

Now i cant decide bw the 2 of them.. i pefer the msi... but i cant fine the 260gtx's benchmarks anywhere... so if someone can tell me that Asus wud be faster as compared to the Msi or not it wud be helpful. The radeon 4850 is fast and gives around 40+ fps in crysis on high settings 1024X768 res....

So plz some one help me :s

Id Take the MSI bigger screen, card's should be on par but at that res 1gb is overkill, would be nicer on the Msi, but the proc makes the MSI a lot more atractive.

Hmm but still i was wondering how much power can the gtx 260 give with those specs... can it beat crysis at 40+fps when on high settings at 1024x768? cuz i can find a single benchmark or a review of the 260gtx!

Thats not a true 260, that is pretty much a 8800 if I am not mistake, and the 280 is pretty much a 9800+. Their naming scheme is funky, go with the MSI, better proc, better vid card, better screen.

By the looks of the asus, ur peice of art seems to be just a plain old 8800 with a 2ghz cpu which i consider really slow if it were a true 260 on it i wud buy tht but if tht is a 8800 then it can hardly give playable fps on low setings... i am looking 4ward to a gaming laptop and till now the asus shows me no hope :s

I'd say go with the Asus. Smaller screen is more portable and lower res which means it uses the 260 better.

It looks like he is looking for performance more like a portable desktop, so I doubt the small screen size is a plus, I would hate gaming on 15", heck if I was getting a laptop I would be going for 18.4". And with that small of screen on both, it really won't make much of a diff, the 4850 will be faster to make up for the slightly larger screen though.

its true i dnt need the small screen nither any portability.... i need max game performance on high res... iam still searching 4 benchmarks and by the way hey 9800gt is way slower thn4850 around 20 fps as comparedto 40fps on the 4850 so even if the 260 is faster thn 9800 it wnt be as fast and keep in mind tht g50 has a cpu clock of 2ghz.... whearas the asus goes to 2.8 after overclock and 2.4 as default tht also makes a diff and the overclock is safe.. as it is by a button and coverd by the 3yr warranty as compared to G50's 1yr warranty!!

Ouch.

You do know a 9800 IS an 8800, and my G50's 2GHz CPU is a 2.53 which overclocks to about 2.9GHz.

Get your head in the game bro, no laptop has a TRUE GTX260, unless we are talking like Sager or other notebooks that weigh like 12lbs...

Also the my G50 has a 2 year warranty not one.

Now there are different G50 models though and you need to learn that.

I was originally stating that these G5x series laptops are quite nice for the money and look really nice too.

He knows a 9800 and 8800 are the same, thats why he said "if it really is a 8800" and he knows the 260M isn't a real 260, thats why he said "if it were a true 260 I would buy it". Also there maybe different G50 models, but that doesn't really matter, he listed the specs of the one he is looking at, the others shouldn't be taken into account as he is not looking at purchasing them.

Well he should, the old models will likely be having good deals, why get a newer slower G51 when you could get a older but faster G50 on the market for the same price?

Not everyone is in the United States, thats probably the answer to your question. Thats why I normally just respond to the items that somebody compares, or maybe hint if they can look elsewhere, but if they brush that off I assume they aren't in the US.

Now now guys no need to be rude as i said any other suggestions are accepted and the sabers cost much for the price and i only saw this g50 tht is here in the specs... dnt blame me but this was the only one and i had no idea to go look 4 older models as they might be better then the new one... as for the vid card no nvidia card even might be 9800gtx 9800gt 8800gtx 8800gt 260gt etc.... has yet out performed a radeon 4850, again by the reviews. So again by the older g50, as he said has a clock of 2.53Ghz, and overclocks to 2.9Ghz sumthing again its around 100mhz faster then the asus which wud hardly give me around 1 fps of a difference maybe 2..... so not much of a gain here, and i dnt know if that 2.9Ghz overclock wud be coverd by its warrant... hope someone wud shed some light on tht too.

dude.. i kno this thread is very old.. but if u r still undecided or for any future reference about GPU performance and rankings...this link might help you out

http://www.notebookcheck.net/Mobile-Graphics-Cards-Benchmark-List.844.0.html

moreover.. MSI is 17".. playing games on 1024 X 768 resolution on this will pixellate while it wont (as much) on a ASUS 15.6". To play on a higher res on 17" (so that the graphics doesn't pixeallate) u need significant power in ur GPU. Now I cant say that a Radeon 4850 is powerful enuf or not but a GTX 260M is definitely powerful enough for a 15.6" laptop.
