harddrive error testing software

Well so far in the past two days I've had 3 lock ups followed by an error saying "a disk read error occurred"

I need some type of software to test my harddrive and make sure it's ok.

Suggestions?

go to WD's site and download and burn their tool to a CD. http://support.wdc.com/product/download.asp?groupid=613&lang=en That link is assuming its the black in your specs.

no problem, I find the maufacturers tests to be more up to date than Hyrens or UBCD.

HDTach is good to benchmark your drives to see if you have any performance issues. Also I use HD Tune to scan sectors.

I've always just used chkdsk (built into windows... right click on a drive, go to properties, tools, error checking)

Drive Fitness Test, DFT. Look for it on this page. I know that's Hitatchi's site, but this tool works very well.

Seatools can detect and sometimes fix that kind of thing. The sata controller can also cause that error if you try switching the hdd to another sata port.

I now think it has something to do with possibly the RAM.

Just was in WoW when the music start repating, soon after I blue screened.
