What are your plans for Windows 7 ?

Running build 7100 right now, waiting for the RTM and switching as soon as i get my hands on it. Will still use xp for the girlfriends laptop but I'll be happy if I never get to touch another vista again

Can't vote...would have to take options 1, 2, and 4 heheh. I am happy with XP, runs my games quite well, but I have messed with 7 for a while, and I like how it runs, much more stable than my early forays into Vista. I need to get into it early because we will have clients accessing it, and wondering about it, so they'll come to me again about it just like Vista. Probably leave my gaming box as is, but will have the GA box running 7 to fool with.

atm I am running two vista64 rigs and I am quite happy with them.... not a single problem! Sure its a demanding OS, in terms of resourses but all runs smooth!

However, I hear a lot of good things about win7, so I will be testing them as soon as I put together a rig with all my spare parts....

everyone will have to switch to either vista or windows 7 soon enough anyways, as i beleive that microsoft will be not supporting XP a few months after the october release of windows 7.

Mybe you could keep xp but it wont be supported by microsoft and it wont take long after for manufactuers to drop the support with drivers etc or the drivers not working to great in futures months after microsoft drop the support.

Just about to build an i7 based rig and what good would that be without Wndows 7?

Edit: I only run one of the first 64bit betas for a couple of weeks but that was good enough for me. Is Xp still going to be in Windows 7 as a virtual pc?

They don't need money -- they're Microsoft.

They need users -- users using their OS, and all the added financial benefits that will come from users running Windows-compatible programs and games.

They don't need to necessarily make money directly from just their OS -- I'll buy enough Windows-compatible games (that they get licensing fees for) to make up for any loss they may incur.

Nope. Though, my original statement still stands. Feel free to give me a spare copy of Windows 7 if you've got one.

Or Microsoft can give me a free copy. Their choice.

It's actually really cool what MS did -- letting users run the RC versions of Windows 7 for a year to help with bug testing and whatnot. It'd be cool if that trend continued.

um, saying your gonna crack it or implying such isnt talking about HOW to crack it, so really I dont see the problem.

Alot of people admit they didnt buy windows xp/vista, be it legally getting free copys or other methods, as long as they dont start talking about HOW to do it theres nothing negative that can really happen to TPU or its users(hell ms wont even bother trying to track down people who cracked windows for personal use, would cost them more then it was worth)

I would just buy technet and have access to all ms software If i was looking at buying multi copys of any ms software, in the end its cheaper and more usefull

My Current machine i would have to wait for AMD to release some Legacy hotfix AGP drivers (HD2K and lower) for Win 7, otherwise its a nice OS but ill wait until it matures and most tweakers have figured out all what makes the OS gears turn.

I wish that I could have given two responces. I'm happy with Vista and am going to wait untill it's more mature. I just instaled the RC on my main rig and to be honest I am totally unimpressed. I really can't figure out why some people rave about 7, I'm guessing those people haven't used Vista since it's releace.

I should mention that on my old laptop with a 2ghz Yonah core I don't notice much if any improvement in general performance with 7 over Vista pre-sp1. Afew more bugs with the latter yes but two service packs later and it's a different story.

I'll be using the RC until March, at which point I'll order whichever one comes with the family pack. Unfortunately its been pretty vague on versions that include the family pack and what the limits are on people buying the family pack. They haven't even confirmed there will be one. I've currently got 2 computers running the RC so I'll need to update no later than March.

If they decide to not release a family pack, or extremely neuter and limit the install, I'll stick to my 2 XP keys and my Vista key.

Already preordered 2 retail copies for £45 each. Have used Windows 7 Beta/RC on laptop since release.

Will put one copy on my laptop, and not sure if I'll use the other on my PC. I don't really see too much of a benefit to warrant me losing the money I could get from selling it in January when the retail price will be £149.

I haven't selected any of the poll options since they all require you to be really eager to switch or not switch at all. Only reason I'm going to install W7 on my laptop is because of SSD support and the fact that it won't have a legal OS otherwise.
