In certain games if I move my mouse slowly to look around or something like that, the screen/cursor won't move at all. I have to move my mouse past a certain speed before everything on the screen starts moving. VERY annoying, basically makes the game unplayable for me.

I'm using a logitech gaming mouse, tried a generic mouse as well and both behave this way. Tried installing the logitech software and updating it to the newest version. I can make it behave better my messing with pointer speed and acceleration, but the issue is still there. First noticed the problem on Vista x64 in the game Alice.. does it on "some" other games like Ghostbusters. I've since upgraded to Windows 7 and the problems is still there.

Has anyone seen this behavior before and have a fix for it?

Are both of the mice optical? Maybe it's the surface you have them on. You could try an optical mouse pad.

What logitech mouse are you using specifically?

You might have to turn the ingame mouse sensitivity up.

Also, there is an option in the Mouse Properties called "Enhance Pointer Precisions", make sure that is off.

It is a logitech G5. It's not the surface because it only does this in certain games.

I have messed with the in game sensitivity, which makes the mouse faster and seems to lower the threshold for how fast I have to move my mouse before everything starts moving. I've messed around with the enhance pointer precision options as well. It does change the behavior. Makes it less noticable with it turned off, but the issue remains.

The cursor is always fine in windows. The games that show this problem are the games that if you run in window mode, will lock the mouse to the game. Games like Everquest 2 where you can simply move the mouse cursor out of the gaming window don't show this problem. I have disabled the logitech game detection and even tried it enabled with faster pointer settings for a specific game and again, it changes the behavior some, but the problem remains.

I've searched my ass off google, but it's a hard issue to describe for a search engine.

Try this;
Set Pointer Acceleration to "None".
Set Speed And Acceleration (in SetPoint) to "SetPoint implemntation".

Could also be that the mouse is just "BAD"

Thanks, I'll give it a try this evening. Highly doubt the mouse has a problem though as it's only certain games and my other mouse shows the same behavior. It's got to be a software issue of some sort.

My setpoint setting was already set to "setpoint implementation".

The pointer acceleration was set to high as the problem seems worse with it turned off. With the acceleration turned up it doesn't take as much physical movement with the mouse to get the cursor to move in game.

Aggrevating problem, when you try to do something slow and precise in game, there's just not movement at all.

I appreciate everyone's help. Any other ideas? Has noone else actually had this issue pop up?

Just curious, what are you DPI settings?

Just curious, what are you DPI settings?

It is 2000/1100/400.. I keep the mouse on the middle setting at 1100.

Here's some more weirdness that makes absolutely no sense to me at all. The game Alice is now working perfectly for no good reason. Ghostbusters still has the problem though. These are the only two games I tested last night. It makes me think it's a setting in the game, but the only options I can find in game is for sensitivity.. I've messed with that setting in both games and it made no difference, no idea why Alice is now working and Ghostbusters is not.

Do you have stacked mouse skates on the bottom raising it away from the surface? If that is the case its possible the laser isnt tracking because it isnt close enough. If you are using a glass pad, I had trouble with a G5 on glass. You can try turning the polling rate up. It is possible the mouse is defective, so try using another mouse. It could be that the game is just lagging horribly. Try updating the drivers, or try not using the drivers at all. Maybe there are compatibility issues somewhere, though I don't know how.

interesting.

I have similar problems with my first gen G7, but thats related to it being unable to track on black mousepads (stupid bug) - opening and closing the main window for the logitech software (specifically, the closing) fixes it.

Have you made sure its not something simple, such as the surface being dirty, or having a reflective patch, or a hair/fluffball being over the laser?

Seeing as you're an nvidia user, have you adjusted the "render frames ahead" option (or whatever its called these days) - i know that many years ago i messed with that option from its default of 3, and it caused my mouse to lag badly in games when my FPS dropped.

Found the problem... It is just the ghostbuster game and the fact that the PC version is a cheap console port.. still has all the settings that are suitable for a controller applied to the mouse. What really threw me off is, after I play this game, it makes other games do the same thing until i reboot. So problem solved... uninstall ghostbusters since there's no fix for how the mouse behaves in that game and how it affects other games.
