MSI Announces its AMD 785G Motherboard Lineup

Ok, I'm a little lost.. The MSI 785g-E65 has 3 PCI-e slots, but the 3rd PCI-e slot has it laned up for a PCI-e16.... Did they forget it??

The boards looks nice, but I think the 785G-E65 is the first board I've seen that they probably took another design, and just replaced the PCI-e16 to be a PCI-e, and said. "Flop it... We don't need to redo the mobo."

I think that PCB is designed for 790 GX, but used on this board. 2-way CrossFire isn't an advertised feature of 785G.

Yeah, It's most likely is right.. I guess MSI needs to cut costs somewhere..

780G and 785G don't have support for standard Crossfire/X, it's 790GX and 790GX that do. If it did, then the board would go over the US$100 mark that AMD didn't aim for with this chipset.

Of course not, these are sub-$100 boards with integrated graphics. Mainly for basic PCs and HTPCs, you don't need CrossFire on those.

I like ASUS' offerings more. They have two PCI-E slots and the layout looks better. And these do support Crossfire, the 780G does too.

One of the PCI-E slots are @ X4, and that really hinders crossfire performance.

Not really. It's PCI-E2.0, the second card doesn't need much more than that anyway.

These are just the first boards from MSi. They will make more using the 785G chipset. These, as the man stated before, are targeting the people who are going to use the intergrated chip. They will release boards later with 2 PCIe 2.0 running 16x/0x Crossfire at 8x/8x.

Your are completely right, but when has that stopped our beloved part vendors from flooding the market with an insane amount of variants, special versions, and "price gap" products.

The new chip is suppose to be just as powerful at a lower clock and has the updated support UVD 2.0 which should help a lot in HTPC's and people who watch HD content on their computer when not gaming.
