Is my mobo defective?

Basically my mobo never produces any beeps, not even when RAM is not installed. The computer powers on perfectly, it's just that I don't get a POST beep, or any beep for that matter. I put in another mobo in my chassis, same processor, ram sticks and video card, and surely it beeped, So it must have something to do with the mobo. Could it be defective?

On some boards you must enable the speaker in BIOS settings. On some boards there is no speaker, you must add one. On some motherboards the speaker comes separate from the mobo and you must connect it.

Some system specs would help a lot. Update in "user cp" or post them.

You need to hook up the speaker most likely. Many motherboards don't come with speakers anymore.

My chassis has built-in speakers, I've connected the speaker connector to the designated pins on my board... My board is an asus m4a78-plus, used a 7750 kuma cpu and kingston hyper x ram. The other motherboard was an asus m2n68-am se2. I've looked into my mobo's manual, but I didn't find anything about enabling speakers. :S

Try another speaker. Do the PWR LED's on the mobo(bottom right) light up at all?

You used a speaker like this(hopefully); http://www.clearpc.ca/catalog/images/speaker.JPG

If no "Beep Codes" are heard then most likly errors are memory or Video card.

Try resetting CMOS. (Use instructions in manual).

Try booting with no memory- no beep mean bad mobo, you should get the no mem beep code.

Then put in memory and remove VGA card. No beep means bad mobo, you should get the no VGA card beep code.

Can you run the config out of the chassis?

Might even be a problem with the case causing a short on the mobo.

Yes I can. But then again, the mobo relies on chassis mounted speakers... I've tried the mobo on an anti-static bag, connecting it to the chassis connectors with the same result.

Reset CMOS. then try booting with no memory. You should get a beep code. If you do not; then either the speaker is bad (or not compatible) or the mobo is bad. If you hear a beep code then reinstall memory (one stick for now) and try again.

Did you have to change anything in the BIOS? Did you update your BIOS?

its an open box I bought from newegg:) all I did was assemble everything and everything works fine, try updating the BIOS http://www.asus.com/product.aspx?P_ID=KX5kXQSmyaQaXVEP&templete=2

Ived used the latest BIOS 1201 version, capable of overclocking my memory up to 1200 MHZ:eek: the 8+1 VRM`s on that one has no heatsinks, dont overclock yet until you put heatspreaders on the VRM`s;) you might end up RMA`ing that, other than that, its a great budget mobo:rockout:
