As now I am preparing myself with vga bios editor, vga bios uploader and downloader, I am ready to learn something new: memory timing modification.

Anyone can point me a good link to start? More specific, for my ATI PowerColor x1600pro 512MB AGP with infineon 2.5nS memory chips.

Or, anyone have best memory timing setting for my VGA card?

Thank you in advance.

Regards,
Arto.

Thank you, but I am looking for memory timing setting. Something like CAS latency, RAS to CAS read delay, Row precharge time, etc...

Open a 9800XT BIOS which has the correct timings for 2.5ns memory (Samsung or Hynix) but they should also be OK for Infinion 2.5ns.

Example:
Samsung 2.5ns
-- In BIOS memory timings --
tWL = 1.5
tCL = 4
tCMD = 0 clock
tSTB = equals tWrL
tRcdRD = 5
tRcdWR = 3
tRP = 5
tRAS = 10
tRRD = 4
tR2W = CL + 3
tWR = 3
tW2R = 2
tW2Rsb = Use tWR Rule
tR2R = 2
MemRR = 2C
tRFC = 17
tRBS = CL + 3
tERST = CL - 0.5
tQSREQ = CL - 0.5
tDQM = WL - 1
tDQS = WL - 1
tDQM_Adv = As specified
tDQS_Adv = As specified

Hynix 2.5ns
-- In BIOS memory timings --
tWL = 1.0
tCL = 4
tCMD = 0 clock
tSTB = equals tWrL
tRcdRD = 5
tRcdWR = 3
tRP = 5
tRAS = 10
tRRD = 4
tR2W = CL + 3
tWR = 3
tW2R = 2
tW2Rsb = Use tWR Rule
tR2R = 2
MemRR = 2C
tRFC = 17
tRBS = CL + 3
tERST = CL - 0.5
tQSREQ = CL - 0.5
tDQM = WL - 1
tDQS = WL - 1
tDQM_Adv = As specified
tDQS_Adv = As specified

Based on my experience increasing tRP = 5 to 6 or 7 can give you stable overclock to 10% above the recommended 400MHz.

Thanks Dolf,

Downloading 9800XT BIOS now.

BTW, if something goes wrong, what is the worse thing to happen?

Thank you again.

Use ATI Tray Tools to experiment with timings (those which can be edited and changed with RaBit) and find the best for your memory. Don't worry for the card but be carefull. When you find the best timings edit your original BIOS and change the timings. Save that BIOS and flash your card with it. Of course test everything again with the new BIOS :) .

Thanks again dolf, but I can't find ATI Tray Tool for memory timings setting. Probably because it can't? ATITools also say chipset doesn't support memory timing.

Richtiges Timing Setting Programm

You can use only the program "Powerstrip" :)
ATI TOOL didn´t work as well. Readon X1600 build in a timings limiter in the chip.

Please tell me the name of the program to edit Bios data´s !!! :D

Rabit.

What do you mean by ATITool doesn't work? And Powerstrip can work for memory timing?
AFAIK, ATITool did not allow memory timing at all, and I can't find memory setting in ATI Tray Tool.

Dolf, any memory timing suggestion for my infineon 2.5nS as follow (original memory timing):

PowerColor x1600pro 512 infineon 2.5:
CAS latency: 7
RAS to CAS read delay: 6
RAS to CAS write delay: 6
Row precharge time: 6
Row activate to Row active CMD time: 4
Read to Write turnaround time: 7
Memory refresh rate: 0x35
Refresh row Cycle time: 0x29

Thanks!

Arto.
