Backplate for gtx 275

I'm not a guy who buys out of vanity (most of the time), and I'm questioning whether to pick it up for my new gtx 275. My google-fu abilities have failed me, for I have found only one website reviewing it.

Thoughts and opinions greatly appreciated

That's the gtx 275 I picked up; it was one of those superclocked cards in a normal box

Funny thing about the SC's, seems alot of people around the web are reporting the vanilla purchase is yeilding SC variants. I got an RMA'd card used here, the member stated it was a vanilla. Shipped it to me, and in the box was an SC

I have one on my 280, and it gets plenty warm, with good case flow I could see a bit of a benifit in temps to the GPU. Im getting it strictly for the sex factor

the 275 is 55nm and doesn't produce near the same heat as a 280 gtx 65nm there is zero need for a back plate.

Some peps told me the new 55nm cards don't need the backplate, because of the memory chips are all on the same side, not on both side like GTX280 or old GTX260.

I realize this, but my GTX275 runs just as hot as my 280 does, and the top of the PCB where the GPU is does get quite warm to the touch. But as I stated, Im getting it more for the sex factor anyways.

If your getting sex from it then I'm getting one God love ya Peety!!! Heck I don't even have a 275 gtx

The plate also provides some protection to the pcb. I am considering ordering one from EVGA. That Fry's price for the 275 is an excellent deal.
Should look good with that plate

Finally got around to making the order. Just over $25 shipped in 3 days. Meh I've waisted more on nights I cant even remember At least I can see this in the morning to remeber it.

Let us know how the temps correspond. From what I see it should drop 5º automatically and help keep off load temps by as much as 10º.

Love evga's fast shipping , but I got a 12-hole variant of the backplate...the only holes that line up are the ones surrounding the gpu; the rest hang

As for those temps, I played around with team fortress 2 a bit and sorry to say didn't see temp decreases on the gpu. Hopefully it's because the backplate needs to be completely screwed in and not just the gpu with the thermal pad :/

Final note (until I get my replacement): LOVE the customer service at evga! I'm getting another for free

A winrar you are mlee. Sorry for this late response, seeing as how I had to wait a week for my replacement . Not only does it look good to boot, temps for the gpu are cooler by about 5º give or take a degree. I must say I do not regret buying it at all; for those thinking of getting one: the price is spot on in terms of performance and sexiness. yay.

Glad you brought that up. The GTX 285 has 12 screw holes which are SLIGHTLY to the left/right of the ones on the gtx 275. In other words no ;(. Though...they do make them for the 285.

I really need a better camera The third pic shows the most devastating realization of the backplate: unlike the ones on the 65nm counterpart, this backplate does not actually touch the pcb, leaving some narrow space in between for the thermal pad

Speaking of which that thermal pad is a godsend-the card didn't scald my hand this time around

EDIT: almost forgot pics of the gtx 285's backplate, the notorious 12 hole one. Notice there are no holes for some high transistor chips like the 275's.

i just read that evga has not made any backplate for the 285 yet i hope they do in the future
