IM thinking of rebuilding my main rig with a p55 mobo and some form of inexpensive cpu for it.

from what i've seen, only the i7 870, i7 860, and i5 750 are available.

im not wanting to pay $200 for a cpu so i need to find something lower than those chips.

anyone know where or prices or dates?

i need to decide on a mobo too. dont need the best but im not one to get the cheapest board either.

what you think?

Could there be a backlash against Intel for this neutered version of i7? i7 processors on 2 different sockets just because Intel wants it that way? I guess that when you have the lead that Intel does, you can do whatever you want.
Fits, There's very little money difference between 1156 and 1366, with the 1156 having a very limited upside, (Intel won't allow 1156 to encroach too much on 1366 territory) while with 1366, we have no idea how far they'll go and they're already talking about i9. Hope you've read the reviews on the i5 chips. They have disabled too much in them, like HT.

i know all about i7 and i5.

im upgrading my main rig which is for net and dvd burning only. i dont need i7 in it at all.

my c2d is slow for me these days so im looking to upgrade it to possibly a 5 or 6 series i5/i3.
