Well for me I rarely upgrade that often. My history for my personal computer has been
Nvidia mx400 -- Ati Radeon x1650 -- Nvidia geforce 7300 -- Ati Radeon HD3870. I think the shortest amount of time of a video card I owned was x1650 to 7300. I think im either gonna upgrade to a 4890 when the rv870's come out, or if the price is right I might get an rv870 for some dx11.

Interesting that you downgraded from a X1650 to a 7300 :laugh:

:rolleyes:

The 7300 came with a Dell i got. I built a socket 478 rig, with an AGP x1650. And then Got a Dell later (bad choice) right as Vista came out (even worse move, although I did get to enjoy it as more and more updates came out). I ditched the dell, went back to my 478 rig, then built my current rig a year ago. Yeah, i have a very strange updgrade history :wtf:

I plan to upgarde completely again in the spring, to an i5 platform probably.

Actually, now that I think about it, I think I had the dell before i built my 478 rig. hmmm i really cant remember, and it was only ~3 maybe 4 years ago.... thats embarrasing :p

I don't upgrade as often as I'd like to, but I'd say I do about every two years, at least
went from a 8600GT to a 9800GTX at the beginning of this year, so I've got awhile

You were embarrassed with owning the Dell before your PC build ? Or that you can't remember which came first ? I can see being somewhat embarrassed about owning the dell, but we have all gone through that. My first PC was a Compaq Pasario refurbished piece of crap that I tried to up grade...ouch !
But I don't remember things all the time...matter of fact, I don't remember why I'm posting this msg...lol....:p

I think a lot of people are looking toward the i5's and seeing what kind of price/performance levels they will bring in addition to the new 5800 cards.

I'm looking to get the Sapphire HD4850 to replace my HIS HD4650 even though I'm not a gamer. The price is right for me. I don't have loads of cash to spend on a video card because I rarely game that much to justify the high cost most people are willing to part with. I'll mostly use the card for photo and video editing (like I do now with the HD4650).

In the past I've upgrade from a ATi Radeon 7000, ATi 9200, GeForce 5200FX, 7300, HD4650, soon to the HD 4850. I'd say about every 2 years (except for the 4650). I'll just probably build a Windows 7 box and use the 4850 on it.

so far i haven't seen any need of an upgrade to DX11 cards,i would wait 2-4 years or so for DX11 to rise to the top or when theirs a game i want play that would only work on DX11 but then again that wouldn't be the issue..but i'm going stick with my 8800GT until their is tons of games that is only support DX11 and when its cheaper.
I could afford them if i saved up but i don't see any need of upgrading as my system would bottleneck the new gfx cards for sure.
Until i find any need of upgrading motherboard and CPU i won't find any need of upgrading gfx card

I think it depends a lot on what's happening in the GPU industry..
My Radeon 9700 Pro was "good" for almost 3 years, but the 2*6800GT SLI I got afterwards was only "good" for less than a year, when I bought a X1900XT.

I got a 2*HD4890 setup back in April, and I think it will last for 2 years, when the DX11 hardware has settled and GPGPU is actually important.

I'd be lucky to have a GFX subsystem last 9 months, usually its 3-6 months with me hankering for new hardware as soon as I've finished tweaking the 'old' hardware.

CPU = 18 months
GPU = 6 months

that's my formula, doesn't work for all :D

I went from 3DFX Voodoo2 to Nvidia Geforce 2 GTS to Ati 9800 Pro (godlike card!) to Nvidia 7800GT to my latest an Nvidia 275 GTX.

I won't buy any upgrade for a while, except maybe when the prices drop on ssd's i might get 1 or 2 P64 corsair SSD's.

Im considering getting rid of my 4870's for a single Nvidia GTX295 towards xmas. unfortunately, my 2 cards are already powerful the a single 4890 & so the only option available really would be to get 2x 4890's for crossfire but over my setup now - there will be such little improvement unless I get a 24" monitor. my current monitor is just over a year old.

I may call it off the idea alltogether as ive yet to play a game that stresses my setup.

but the plan this christmas...

1. Put in some more hard drives probably 4 or 5 1-1.5Tb hard drives
2. Get rid of my XFi Titanium fatality Pro & buy a Xonar D2x (this has to be done ASAP)
3. Get rid of my OCZ Vendetta2 cpu cooler for something else
