no change in my (lacklustre) performance in vantage at least, will get back with crysis in a sec.

EDIT: no improvement either, between 20-30 fps with very high and 4xAA @ 1680x1050

EDIT again: omg ive just saw some major improvements in vantage when i installed the driver (non clean, ironically) again, i may actually have fixed the bugger!!!!!

got a gpu score of 15k at stock, not going to set the world alight, but it's better, and that's a start at least :)

crysis has improved too, the benchmark now gives 38fps at 1680x1050 with 4xAA, which is fine by me :)

Just flashed my card to the Asus bios, its been a while since I've flashed any cards, I've always done ATi cards in winflash or their own little app (like gigabyte bios updater) but for fear of bricking I decided to go old fashioned like Iused to do with Nv cards and do it in DOS.

After about 15 minutes of holding my breath it all went smooth as butter and now the cards reads as Asus, CCC limits now 1200/1400, up from 900/1300.

Now the real magic here is it has allowed me to keep 2d profiles. before when the limit was 900mhz, I used AMD GPU clock tool, which forces your clock and WON'T go back to 2d clocks, same with voltage in MSI afterburner.

Now I set 1000/1250, 1.25v, during 2d it's still 157/300mhz @ ~0.9v and when it clocks up it goes to my settings! MAGIC!

1ghz Radeon 5870... 24/7 :D:D:D:D:D

link to guide I used;

http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/sho...php?p=15021144

its perfect, it has everything you need and can be followed to the letter.

this works a treat :D

is that catalyst 9.10 and non clean meaning u just uninstalled ur older driver and installed this one?

it meant i reinstalled my old one, then just installed the new one without uninstalling the other (so it just overwrites it).

I always do a non-clean upgrade, except when I get problems.

It's great how it still clocks down, so good.

I can run about 950-975 on stock volts, really all I needed was the 900mhz limit crushed

Probably very close, that article is short and sweet about it too, it's well worth doing IMO.

Given the current situations at the Green Team I suspect the Red Team to be deliberately taking alot more action, including stuff like this. Very smart thing to do.

Still cannot buy a 58xx card from newegg. . . is this normal? (slow production)

Plenty of 5770's.

I wonder how 2 5770's compare to a 5870... probably more of a headache than saving to buy 1 5850/5870. I might buy a 5770 just to bench it then trade it for something :)

i do think nvidia are kind of screwed atm, judging by how massive their last gen chips were, if they want to match the 5870 on performance, they'll probably end up with a chip nearly 66% bigger, which is going to hurt them. Plus they didn't have a tessellation unit to start off with, whereas ati just needed to make small changes to the one they had built in already. All of which would explain the lack of response, and by the time they roll out a high end single gpu, ati will have rolled out the 5870X2 and maybe even some 5900's, and conquered the midrange with the 5700's too. This generation really looks like an ati one, which looks all the more likely considering how many developers are jumping on the dx11 bandwagon fairly quickly, which will lead them into working with ati instead of nvidia. So unless nvidia reply before the year is out with a product that at least beats the hd5870 by a decent margin without costing a ridiculous price they're in trouble, but can you really see nv selling their high end chip for less than £400 at launch if it beats the hd5870 by more than 5%? (of course if the 5900's exist and come out about December, then they'll have to sell cheap).

And, ATI can just drop their prices when the new nV cards get released....more pain.

@ Zubasa, have u tried raising the volts?
