lol , i did not get the 5870 for 2 very good reason's . first was i could not afford it all at once , the second reason is i could not wait lol . i must say i did not think that this card would perform like it does , and all it cost me was £125 for the sapphire version (which is cheap cause they cost more everywhere i have looked)

Yep, that was one of the first things I checked for. Once I saw that, the power it has, the little power it uses, and the silence which it operates...I fell in love.

As it stands right now my mind is set on a single 5770. I've got plenty of room and plenty of power supply to handle a second if I want it next year. Worse comes to worse...sell the 5770 and buy the next thing on the foodchain like I always do.

I don't remember the last thing I paid full price for (or even close) that I've put in my computer. It's just one revolving door where it's more like renting parts lol. I'm running out of reasons now to swap in new things so once the power consumption is where I want it...that setup just might stay here for years.

Btw, I see you're rockin the big beasty 5870...how's that treating you so far? What kinda temps do you see and how is the noise?

generally it treats me well when idle the fan is silent, lierally, i just can't hear it over anything. When playing games for a while it does kick up a bit though, and after around 15-20 minutes or so it will become audible over the rest of the pc. However, its nothing too awful, but it isn't the quietest card when the fan speed gets knocked up to 60-100%

temperature wise, itis very much linked to the fan speed. If i run it 100% i wont top 80C, with the fan at 60 i'll reach 85 and when running at a relatively silent 25% i'll top 92C (but tbh i'd rather keep temps lower than that). Those temps are generally whilst playing crysis, so other games will probably sport lower temperatures.

just overclocked my 5770 using overdrive in ccc , clocks 940 core 1245 mem but gpu-z is not reading the clocks (still reports stock speeds) . results are below

a 5770 intrigues me. But Im using an HD4830 right now that's OCed. So Im not pressed to upgrade. Maybe the next gen of cards Ill jump in. I need me a nice Quad set up first though, my 4830 matches my E5200 nicely haha.

it probably the way it is, like when u turn ur pc on its like at full throttle for a few secs then comes down, woke up from sleep mode and same thing for few secs.. i think nothing to worry about

When my System boots up my Cards Fan revs up then slows to normal; I think it's just a POST/Bios Check of the card, making sure the Temp Sensor and Fan is working normally.

I had that issue when had Afterburner control the fan. I ended letting the vanilla CCC do the automatic fan control.

I unchecked the option to start Afterburner when windows starts.

it says buy 2 and save £15 , also the core count is wrong as it says 720 instead of 800

also if you look at scan you can get the same card for a little over £125

The 2GB card is the choice of OEMs, much like the 4850x2. Don't expect many to support it as it has been shown that 2GB is rarely needed on this card.

Oh I know, but we will see them - like we did with the 2GB 4870 and 4890s. Even if they're over priced and not as popular. I'm interested to see how they'd perform at the higher resolutions people are starting to game at (1600 x 1200 and higher). Wouldn't be surprised if we see a few before Hemlock.

I'm still waiting for some DX11-based games to come out before considering a new video card. Might arrive by Christmas you never know. I am impressed with performance but even if the DX11 games come out thats where we will know if it's a good idea to make the switch. After all, ATI fans were quite fooled when the HD 2000 series came out with terrible results.
