Tomorrow I'll replace the TIM on my 5870 and share results, it will be AS5.

Has anyone else done this because I just couldn't get one of the tiny screws off the backplate, at the end with the fan... it actually destroyed the heads of a couple of tiny jewelers screwdrivers I have :(

I tried putting more screws back in so there was less pressure in that area and all, i spent about 30 minutes fruitlessly trying and trying not to get frustrated....

Hey guys.. I'm debating on making the purchase for a 5850 but now Im on the fence. After reading reviews it seems the 5770 is comparable to a gtx 260.. how do you feel about the 5770 and todays games (borderlands + mw2)?

How does one feel about 5770 xfire? (for later when when the need is there)

Or is the 5850 the better way to go?

I dont have a budget really. But the cards are all sold out. Anything I buy thats inferior will be most likely sold here like usual but I'm getting impatient. I'm expecting my x58 back from RMA soon and I wanna pick up borderlands or something else new.

I will end up buying a 5850/5870 but I don't feel I @need@ that right now. I sold my 2 month old gtx 275 in preperations for the 58xx upgrade bug but then I had the mobo issue so it bought me time.

If you're "used" to the GTX275 I think you should go for a 58XX card. Otherwise it might feel like a downgrade.
Plus, X58 by itself is beastly enough to crank the best out of these cards.

AGREE .. if u love benchmarking go for 5870, X58 and I7 with tripple ddr3 will give ur Vantage awesome boost and won't bottleneck your video card as much, especially in crossfire... but 5850 is good enough, i switched from gtx260 216 and whooohooooo:rockout: ,,however since u r still waiting ,, when is the new geforce coming out ,, should be good cards
here is something i was able to achieve for benchmarking

the potential is enormous, 325mhz core overclock, personally never had anything like this, playing games with 950/1100 at 1.187v

share your ATI 5xxx results here|what is ur favorite 4x4 game|what video cards have you owned

Hmm, just like the 9800GX2 or 7900GX2--those cards are slightly slower versions of their single-GPU counterparts, times 2.

I guess ATI expects that they would still sell the 5890 very well, as long as it's cheaper than two 5870's in Crossfire but not too much slower. I do not think too much performance would be lost, given the huge memory bottleneck on a 5870 anyways. But then again, ATI is only using 4GHz GDDR5 instead of 4.8GHz! What the heck is ATI doing, shooting itself in the foot or what?!?

They just can't go over the 300W power limit. That's why it uses the 5850's reference clocks and voltages - 151W against 199W for the HD5870

hey guys i just got my two msi 5850s installed tonight!, im having trouble with afterburner though...it will only detect one of the cards, i can change the volts on both but only adjust fanspeed/clocks one one of them. they are both msi models so it seems a bit strange. Ive tried both the original afterburner which came on the disk and the latest 1.3 version to no avail. but i used amd gpu tool and got them to 800/1100 and this is what i've achieved so far. Also, take into consideration im using a 9800gt for physx. :) lovin it.

This is some what inline with the GTX 295.
nVidia created a half-ass GPU between the 285 and the 260 which become the GTX 275.
Which have the full 240SPs of the 285/280, and downclocked while having the bandwidth of a 260.

On the otherhand, I am more intrested in a 5950 or 5850X2.

memory bottleneck on a 5870? i thought 5800 series is doing fine in that department
Nice score Enmity with crossfire and physx, but there is room for improvement.get latest afterburner and there should be "link both gpu's" button or something
