ATI's R600 to have over 500 million transistors.

The first DirectX 10 chip from ATI will have some serious power behind it. Not only does the 80nm core take around 180W of power, but it will have 500 million transistors powering it's 64 shader units. With that much raw power behind it, the R600 will effectively double the current performance of it's predecessors, in DirectX 9 as well as DirectX 10 applications. ATI's latest and greatest is exptected to be released in January or February, giving the NVIDIA GeForce 8 series up to a three month head start.

wow 80nm core. I guess they will introduce the 65nm (or so) core 1 month later. This should require less power by then and, if they go digital require less circuits on the PCB also reducing heat.

Winter is coming guys... I'm up for one of these new babies. I can save money on the heating too... (albeit with higher electricity bills for running the PC). If it's a really cold winter, I'll run folding@home. :laugh:

Not so sure about the next hot summer though! NO WAY am I going to be sitting next to a toaster. :roll:

Soon, we'll start seeing OUTDOOR computers. You hang them on the wall just like an air-con and run some wires through the window! :laugh:

well they do call it crossfire for a reason, anyway least we forget it will Trifire with ati's "great" :laugh:

idea for 3 pci-e cards u know 1 for physics 2 more for also no apparent reason totaling 3 cards hitting you wallet for at least $1500 to be blown away in 5 months by some new version of the same crap

3 cards is just wrong. ati will have to make it so a regular crossfire setup could do gpu physics, or even make it so u can set a percentage of a single gpu in a single card setup to do physics.

thats how it will work. you can do 1 for physics and one for graphics/ or you could have crossfire, but if you want crossfire and physics you have to go for a third card, although the third one doesnt have to be the same as the two crossfire cards
