I am thinking about clocking the crap out of my Q9550 and get some more WCG points, but it runs a bit warm clocked up high with my current cooler.

So, what are the thoughts, a single 120mm rad vs s1284?

Thinking single rad because it's an easy mount and keeps the system easily movable.

S1284. Single rad WC systems arn't worth it. You'll spend more than a high end heatsink and I bet your clocks won't improve by 10%. I'd get a high end heatsink before I got a single rad WC setup. If the $50+ heatsink doesn't cut it, then next step is a triple rad.

yeah, i've read it thru

seems to be no agreed upon opinon on whether its better or worse than standard tower air coolers...reviews have been sited that side both ways

i think that with 2 decent fans in push pull though it be better than his xiggy...the reviews have the h50 matched against monsters such as the megahalem

I use a XSPC RX120 radiator, MCP355 pump and a Dtek Fuzion V2. I get consistently better load temperatures with my previous E8600 and current X4 955 than with my R1283.

It's better.

Trust me.

The past 30 days or so I've had 4 tower coolers.

1 being the True 120 EX the other being a xigy 1283.

My domino ALC completely wrecks both of them temp wise.

Max temps with 1.45 volts 3.5ghz with the true was 89 ( I have 2 hot cores)

With the ALC my max temps of 71 with 1.5 volts 3.6 ghz.

Quite the difference eh?

Also the temp difference between cores was less.

No idea why but I thought I'd add it.

How much better? I'm not doubting you, I just wanna know how much we're talking here.

The issue I see is how cost effective such a move would be. Spend $80+ for only (say) ~10C isn't worth it imo. 10C won't buy you alot of OC headroom.

And that's my biggest problem with these enclosed WC units. They cost about the same as a hgh end air, but are not as effective in cooling, especially when you consider noise levels. For $80, I could get an air cooler that will outperform the Domino.

Oh I forgot to mention.

The ALC has 1 fan on it in pushing air out of the case, the fan is stock ALC and set on its middle setting.

The true had two fans on it.

And I already said on that thread that they perform really well, especially for how cheap they are in some places.

( bestbuy in the US, overclockers.co.uk in England)

But if people don't want to listen/ or believe me that's up to them : ]

Well from what I saw on the other thread and what you have said..
First a lot can affect how well your radiator works, especially when we start messing with ambient temps and really even the coolant used.

It does look pretty good for the price especially, but not good enough for what I'm looking for.
I'm aiming for 4ghz+ and temps under 55c on load.

With my E8600 @ 4.75ghz 1.35v

R1283 = 72c under load **Actually at 4.5ghz 1.3v** Didn't bother trying for 4.75ghz with this. Too hot.

W/C = 58c under load

I'm going off of my memory, but I'm quite certain on the temps. The RX120 is a double thick radiator and I use a medium speed push/pull configuration.

I'm going to take a good look at my other case I have laying around.

I have a CM690 sitting around..

Does the fan on the back of the board behind the cpu really make any difference? Maybe use it as an intake fan to blow some cool air at the back of the socket...

I use it as an exhaust, but with the side panel off, it would probablly work better as an intake. The airflow from the rad blows into the mobo section of the case nicely. The radiator has pretty wide fin spacing, so the air really doesn't get that warm.

Yeah, nice setup erocker. I forgot that the RX120 was the thick one. I was thinking RS120. My bad. Admittingly, I am surprised at the performance. Hm. This is a tough decision.

That's an AWESOME idea! The colder the air going through it, the more effective it is. DO IT!

I'd give it a little umbrella to stop rain getting on it and corroding it, but other then that I'd say it was a great idea :D

I mean on the back side of the mainboard.

On the CM690 there is a place for a 80mm fan I believe on the bottom of the mainboard, behind the cpu socket. Know what I'm talkin about?

I attached a pic here, see the spot for the fan below where the cpu would be?

"Mount" yes, you will freeze the water and that would be REALLY bad. If you want to stick it out there when in use, go ahead, a window sill with an open window works great as well.

The other thing to watch for is water getting colder than room temp, you don't want condensation.

I think it would most definitely make a difference. I know MkMods does it to a lot of his rigs with good results.
