TPU Census 2010 request

I briefly remember filling out a form quite some time ago that gave details on age/sex/other various computer related questions and I'd like to request TPU give a 2010 Census for registered users.

The statistics are really beneficial for a reference source and IIRC last go around there was a freebie :cool:

to a random participant.

I dont know if the last go around was a hassle for Admin but if it's possible I'd love to see it happen again.

Oh and a 'thanks' to the person who can link me to last time's statistical results. :toast:

Cool idea.

My only suggestion would be to have less broad categories. Instead of '18-25', why not use five year, or three year increments. I think more specific data can show more patterns.

it would also be nice to clear up the whole college/university thing. obviously they mean two different things to people across the globe. and it would be neat to add preference for nvidia or ati and intel or amd.

Traffic per country is relatively easy. Sex is easy too, 2 girls, me and the rest are male. For age a simple query could be run on the forums excluding everyone who did not enter their age, this would give a fair idea of age, the query could be extended to exclude inactive members as well (based on last activity as shown in ones profile).
Most other information is more complex, as most fields are just strings, no way to compare them. ie what CPU everyone has would end up in Core2due E6600, E6600, C2D E6600, C2D 2.4 etc. No way to identify those as the same reliably, thus a poll is required for such data = less data = less reliable.

I think that if a census is done it should be more preference based that specific hardware usage based as people are changing their configurations constantly. No need to have a "What CPU" type of questions.

Yes, you could gather the information from the data contained in the forum profiles, but I think you are missing a key point. People want to fill out the census as it gives them an opportunity to participate in something.

They will then make it a competition to see whose "team" is doing the best and much drama will ensue. Sounds like fun to me.

If a generic Census was made, then W1zzard wouldn't have to do a single thing from here on out, just post it, bta edit it, and boom, we're going. Now, that is if both and everyone else wants to do it.

I bet if Bta worked in my hospital, I could get him to do it with some extra food here and there.

It's a great idea. Just need to work all the stuff out, and see if the higher ups can do it. It is the holidays you know!

I know to whom I'd give the Funniest Member award (El Fiendo, I almost die of laughter after readimg some of his comments). Most helpful is delicate, a lot of users would deserve that title. And worst spelling... I dunno :laugh:
