Core i9 ES preview test! Worth looking

Hi!

Guys at pclab.pl - polish hardware site - put their hands on early ES of Gulftown, Core i9 six core CPU and benched it a little.

Assuming it is accurate, they scale perfectly (~17 per physical core). If it is to be believed, that means there's very few/no architectural changes between 32 nm and 45nm and between 4-cores and 6-cores. In fact, they're so perfect (6 = 16.965, 4 = 16.9975), I don't believe it. Multithreading generally doesn't scale that nice because one core is always burdened with managing the lot.

I love what the i9 is going to offer, the price seems a little high, but I am just happy that 1366 has an upgrade path and a good one at that.

I've seen some ES results and they scale perfectly with results in a number of cpu benchmarks including WPrime, Cinebench R10, and Vantage CPU tests. There's actually a lot that has to be changed to put two more cores onto the die. Don't forget how the C2Qs were made :laugh:

Intel done and gone the right thing here.

They easily go above 4.0GHz. Most ES samples do 5GHz on air.

yeah been waiting for the 32nm's to come out... no doubt i should be ordering a hacksaw soon so i cant cut off an arm and a leg :laugh:

Told ya - impressive numbers really. I'd like to do few renders on this moster.
Damn... Now I know that I'll stay on my current setup and wait for 32nm's CPUs.
