GTX 285 GPU core locked @400MHz

Hi,

I have 2 gtx 285 2-way SLI. Both card OC'ed to 700/1300.
Last night I was playing MW2, then suddenly screen went blank and nvidia error message popped up (can't remember exactly what the error was "bla bla... successfully recovered").

I just noticed my second card can't get to 700/1300. It's locked @400MHz.
I've tried different drivers from 186 to 195.62 (I'm using this atm), but no luck there.

I have to restart computer, then it works properly again, but after 1 hour of gaming the error shows up again.

Is this hardware faulty or driver/registry issue?

I thought it was MW2 maxed setting so I reduce the graphic setting and set both GPU to factory clock/shader/memory. Didn't work.

You mean set it under the factory setting? Both card running at 648/1242

They were fine @ 700/1300 for 2 - 3 months.

Yep, and if that card is still crashing @ factory, you're just going to have to play with them. I'm going to have to go with one of them having died on you. You could try completely removing the drivers+DriverSweep and reinstalling the latest drivers.

All you need to do is restart your computer and you should be fine.

Don't listen to DirectorC... i really dont see where the hell your getting a Graphic card failure from... Yours card a perfectly fine.

I know it keeps bugging me... they're fine after restart/clean install. Works every time but it's getting worse last couple of days

Well if your getting driver errors, it could be due to bad clocks/ bad drivers/ overheating, so IMHO just keep them @ stock speeds or a slight OC but your cards arent bad.

OK Xazax, saying 'Don't listen to that guy' is kind of rude in my opinion, especially when you didn't come up with a solution for the problem and/or completely ignored that it keeps happening to him after an hour of gaming and he has to reboot, even with the cards at stock speed (I'm assuming, since he didn't make that clear). Yeesh. Try to not be so egotistical in the future.

400 Core / 300 Memory are the "Low Power 3D" clocks for the GTX285.

The driver recovery issue just means that the driver crashed, or froze. This coupled with the card being suck in Low Power 3D can be caused by several things.

1.) Driver Problem.
2.) Power Supply.
3.) Failing card.

If it was a driver issue, I would think both cards would be having the issue. So that leaves either the power supply or the card. I would run with just the card that is giving you problems. If it doesn't keep doing it, then I would probably look into the power supply not being able to handle both cards. I know it is a 1100w, and that should handle both cards, but that doesn't mean that the power supply isn't going bad. The rail that the GTX285 that your having problems with could be failing inside the PSU and cutting power to the card. This would cause instability, driver crashing and recovering(the error you get), and the card being stuck in Low Power mode.

Restarting solves the problem, but I think fang_laluna is more interested in a solution to what is causing the problem. If my car overheats, I don't just turn it off and back on to get it going again, I find out why it is overheating.

problem solved, it's my SLi bridge

I should have checked it in the first place. I reseated the bridge and everything works fine now. Thanks guys

I would have never guessed that being the problem Not that I have used SLI, but funny thing this computer stuff, you learn something constantly.
