The Office 2010 beta thread

Post your experiences with the new Office 2010 beta in this thread, fellow enthusiasts. Here's mine so far...

I’ve just installed Office 2010 beta 32-bit on my spare PC running Windows Server 2008 (aka Vista Server Edition) to play with. Yes, Office 2010 is actually available in 64-bit too. Will be interesting to see what benefits that brings, besides taking more hard disc space.

I'm especially curious to see what they've done with Outlook, as the 2007 version still has the sense to use a classic menu. Anyway, as you can guess, the 2010 version doesn't and gets the full ribbon treatment.

As it's so intuitive, I now can't find anything, just like the other Office apps. Result.

Even better, I copied over my multi-megabyte PST file and connected it. The Qubit mailbox associated with it appears on the left, but is greyed out for no obvious reason and has no folders listed under it. Fuck knows why.

Sometimes the NTFS permissions are set a bit restrictive when a file is copied over, so I gave Everyone full control - ie every Tom, Dick and Hacker can mess with the file without restrictions. As expected, it's still greyed out. I'm now looking for the equivalent of the old Account Settings menu item...

Office is the thing in my computer that I am the most reluctant to upgrade. 2003 was their best release yet, with 2007 having some nice added features, but mostly for noobs.

I really liked the colour scheme in 2003, I must say. 2007 has a few nice interface useability touches though, such as zooming and quick saving files (the floppy disc icon at the top left of every app window).

I only enjoy the look of 10 better, but it still resembles a lot of 07.
Kinda depressing. I kinda liked the old menu layout
Oh well, nothing really distinguishable from what I can tell.

The thing u expailed earlier .. sometime sim on a laptop and i reading elcture notes i downlaodand and inadvertently edit the file .. with the permissions feature it realises its not from my machine adn disables editing. Also the ui isa bit more refined. I like that u can close it before it started eg u accidentally open 45 word documents at once ... and other little things

I DLed it last night and the wife is testing it right now. She does use it a lot where she works (accounting firm). Sometime this week she will tell me what she likes and hates about it compared to office 2007.

If you learned to use it like a pro then you wont think thats for noob
When you think its for noob then I suppose its you the noob who didnt learned all the functions lol.
I just got my diploma in Bureautic and it took me 1 full year to learn Office 2007 and still have to learn more. Believe me theres hidden functions you wont even think about.
