At the SC09 conference in portland today Intel's Larrabee was able to achieve in the SGEMM Performance test [4K by 4K Matrix Multiply, QCD] 1006GFLOP vs 425 on the GTX285(overclocked) and 300 on the Firestream 9270(Ie:a little faster than HD4870) with only 32 cores@2Ghz with the card using only 150W max,Intel stated that shipping cards would have at least 32 way back, if this is true it will be a monster for the HPC market.

There is no current info on the HD5XXX cards right now but they should score about 750 if the R770 scored 300

http://www.brightsideofnews.com/new...-1tflops---27x-faster-than-nvidia-gt200!.aspx

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ynjYuS1J3jI

the youtube link actually shows the card with 16cores

Benchmark Scores Faster than the tortoise; slower than the hare.
So, 2 TFLOP is expected (32 core) and high end models (64 core) could achieve 4 TFLOP. I wish my 8800 GT waited a year to die. :(

nobody currently knows really every card takes a performance dive in FLOPS as far as SGEMM goes so the actual FLOP rating might be sold as being higher, and you can bet intel will use what they learned in developing larrabee in their next generation cpu's'

im dissapointed though still

If Intel can get some drivers for this thing, it should be interesting to see how it does compared to G300 and ATI's next generation, since this will be out middle of next year.

Hmmmm Intel better not take over the world, you too microsoft! :D

You're at least five years too late. It's already been taken over. Anyways, I couldn't be happier that there will be more competition in the graphics market.

Yeah I know hey, still pretty cool that another company iz joining in the high end GPU market!:D

I'll tell wat would be an awesome computer (every computer freaks dream fantasy),

having an AMD PII X6 OC 4.2ghz + Intel Core i9 9xx X6 HT OC 4.5ghz + PS3 Cell Processor 3.2ghz 8spu's + HD5990 4gb SO video card + GTX395 SO 3gb video card + Intel Larrabee extreme video card 64cores 3ghz SO 3gb, all in one system, eeerrrhhhhhh! Im tired of typing lol:D

But the most important question still stands, can it run crysis LMFAO:D:D:D

if your trying to say the HD5970 FLOP ratings are higher in SGEMM then your wrong, SGEMM calculates FLOPS differently, whatever flop rating you are shown isn't even going to be half that in SGEMM tests

SGEMM is single not double precision.

it's defined as "multiplication of two matrices with single precision". it is NOT defined as an exact pre-compiled fixed piece of code to run (like 3dmark for example).

this means that if intel has good people who know how to optimize for their arch/compiler they can make it run faster than another unoptimized version

Buy AMD! They work great for games, are cheaper, overclock friendly and come with a better stock cooler than Intel! Price also reflects performance. Meh, off topic.

:wtf::eek::ohwell:

erm... 1... I have no idea about the comparison that website uses... and

you cant compare theoretical peak values with actual benched values.

the 4tflops on the 5970 is maximum theoretical, not what it will do in SGEMM. Anyways, I feel like one benchmark showing the compute power of 16 cores at 2GHz does very little in terms of assessing the overall power of the cards.

not to mention multi-gpu's arent compatible with that bench.

it seems they are aiming not towards the graphics card market but rather the high end computing market, all I see is a co-processor here which is why I'm dissapointed

this thing is probably gonna cost a couple grand

Hmm, interesting. But like someone else said, we will have to wait and see what happens when it gets released.
Or atleast close to mass production.

well they are a CPU company, they are ever since BROOK they have been watching as GPU's become more and more powerful in raw crunching.

Once CUDA came about, it was pretty obvious that HPC market was moving towards GPU's over CPUs... after all, who will buy 10,000 125W processors if 5,000 150W gfx cards can do the job twice as fast.

Benchmark Scores 20000+ with 3d mark 06 and both radeon hd 4770 oced
These are the two top end cards on the market if you OC them you will get more out of em you are right but what test is more accurate the 3DMark or the one your on about because the compare Cards is extremely accurate to factory defaults and yes some are not updated to be procise because someone hasn't benched them right who's fault is that what you see is what you get and you pay a hefty price to get it normally. If you work in IT and that is what you love what is £400 for GC nothing but when it comes to tweaking and modding and bang then £400 = £800 quid spent on new one.

If you work in a factory with AS of 10k annual then £180 a week then your talking more work and love to get the same thing!

Is there a Wall in gaming, you know after a curtain amount of Texels and pixels you can't see a noticable different in game play. If so what you need to get over that target and what cards can perform past it. Because as games get better in picture and animation then even then there has to be a limit which it won't be noticable afterwards right???

:wtf: Larrabee is being advertised for HPC market... meaning they will use these to find oil, cures for cancer, and run monte carlo simulations, physics computations, etc etc. Theyre basically advertising this for super-computing use.

I really dont think anyone there cares about its 3dmark score
