Intel replaces the Core i7-920
Intel Core i7-930 said to come with 2.8 GHz in February 2010
Intel's Bloomfield processors array, also known as Core i7-900, is having a hard time at the moment. Therefore Intel overhaules the portfolio and will apparently replace the core i7-920 with the i7-930 in February.
The processors of Intel's socket 1366 Bloomfield series are fast, but the competition in form of the socket 1156 based Lynnfields is huge since those CPUs are similarly fast and cheaper. Therefore Intel is restructuring the product array: The Core i7-940 has been replaced by the Core i7-950 which has a slightly higher clock speed. Now it's the turn of the smallest of the processors. The Core i7-930 is supposed to run at 2.8 GHz and will apparently replace the Core i7-920 (2.66 GHz).
Intel is supposed to carry out this restructure of the product array in order to separate the Core i7-900 series a little by the in-house competition since the common user doesn't really benefit a lot from the eight cores (which are also offered by the socket 1156 processors) or the bigger memory interface.
According to the latest rumors the new processor will hit the markets in the first quarter of 2010 - currently February is the best guess. The price for the Core i7-930 is said to be 284 USD.
