SOUND CARD: OMEGA CLARO + 163.38 w/ship

http://www.linkecomputer.com/products/1002559/CLARO plus +/HT Omega/

RECEIVER: Onkyo SR507 - $261 w/ship (i current have SONY STR-K850P, will this receiver be a significant upgrade?)

http://www.accessories4less.com/index.php?page=item&id=ONKTXSR507BLK

SPEAKERS: Energy take 5 5.0 $150

i want to use the set up for music, gaming, movies.. primarily for music though.. my budget is flexible.. whats important to me is great music and good sound quality.. if spending a little more will make a big boost in quality then ill get it.. if i could save alot of money and not loose much quality at all .. sounds good to me

max budget / min budget 1500 - 500

room size is about 15L x 12w x 11h (feet)

Current System: please tell me if i should save any money by keeping what i have

STR-K850P receiver with sony speakers and sub)

SUB: SONY SAWMSP85 100w sub

SPEAKERS: im pretty sure i need speakers. ive mixed and matched the original sony speakers (some died on me) with speakers i have dug up at the dumpster.. so.. it looks like a speaker foster home my center is actually a left speaker from a boombox.. LOL!

(my current system is sony 700 watt receiver with 5.1 speakers i bought at best buy in 2000 .. it was on sale for only 200 dollars (reduced from normal 400)..

any advice on what to do with the system.. i think it still sounds ok.. whats the best way to make some cash on this thing

thanks.. i always get products with high egg reviews.. thats why i choose the one i did.. but your choice has even higher reviews.. and the fact that its sold out means its in high demand.. all good signs.. but on second look over at the AVS forum.. they hate these speakers.. they say their pure crap.. and alot of them have reviews to back it up.. these speakers are junk garbage.... lol.. even mention these speakers at AVS is the equivalent of someone here saying there going to buy a prebuilt PC at alienware.. but these are just probably speaker fanboi's.. i stil think these speakers look good for the money

If you have a real receiver, then the Logitech speakers will not be able to match it. Logitech, in my opinion is an okay brand, nothing special. Try looking at some Shure, Klipsch, Athena, or Yamaha speakers. I find Sony's have good quality though.

Also, what speakers do you have currently? It might be counter-intuitive to upgrade.

the Z-5500's are an amazing set but for loud and speaker quality buying prebuilt even the z-5500's isnt going to match your system. Honestly it probably wouldnt surpass what you have now.

Also, what speakers do you have currently?

any specific suggestions to match up with a Onyoko 507? i would appreciate it.. the speakers i currently have are a mix match.. my left speaker is a logitec from a logitec system i found in the dumpster, my center is the left speaker from a busted boom box, my two rear speakers are the original sonys.. but they are dying slowly, i can tell they dont have long left, and they're not even as loud as they used to be, ( at least it seems like it).. basically the speakers i have now are crap so im definitely going to buy speakers, im considering keeping my sony reciever since it has optical input.. the sub i have seems good.. i even have a gold cable for it, lol probably a gimmick but it cost a hell of alot but i really like base, so i would like to get a really nice base

if its 700w and has optical in. grab yourself a card that has digi output. 700w is enough depending on personal preferance though for most it would be good. So i would save the cash you would have spent on a new receiver and grab yourself a brand new full set of even nicer speakers.

Hmmm... I think you should actually ditch your current speakers, keep the reciever, and throw in some new speakers. Recievers are like tanks, they never really go down :D

You could build yourself (figuratively) a set with these

http://www.athenaspeakers.com/products/audition-series/

Using the AS-F2, AS-B2, and AS-C1

Unfortunately, I'm not a huge bass guy, so I don't know much about good companies for that sort of thing.

yeah im really liking the AS-B2 athena bookshelf speakers.. i may ge a pair of these first and see how they perform before replacing the rears

i also like that these athena's are magnetically shielded.. this might be a big deal because alot of these speakers are next to my PC

hmm everywhere i search they are all sold out .. man this sucks

Logitech Z-5500 are good for those who have never experience quality sound equipment so to those "newbies" it sounds like heaven but for someone desiring quality, those speakers are a definite no-no.

I think this is the wrong place to ask for opinion about sound systems etc, I would go to AV forums and ask the same question.

thanks already did, they said i should probably hang onto the sony receiver while i can.. or at least someone suggested it..

heres what im going to do..

im going to buy Model SBS-01 5.1 Set Black with PB10-NSD for

~850$ shipped.. everyone says these speakers and subs are top of the line for entry level... then after i break them in awile.. im going to go to best buy and pick up an onyoko receiver. probably a 606.. maybey 706.. i will test it out with the speakers.. if it makes a big improvement then i will return it and order one online for 300-500 dollars new or used, if it doesnt make a big differnce i'll return it and stick with what i got

thanks for teh suggestion from what i read on AV forum that polk sub is definitely one of the best choices at that price range.. but the SVS is definitely all around better/best.. just depends on if you think you want to spend 450 on a sub.. im going to just because my budget allows and i think ive earned it working 16 hours a day for the last few months

the speakers also look good.. but unless im mistaken thats a 2 pair.. i think itll just be easier to get all 5 at once

i might also go with 5x SCS speakers for $595.00 + Sub for 450 for about 1050 + shipping.. i just cant resist ..lol i already broke my budget might have to delay the 5870

only about 250 dollars more for almost double the speakers

thanks for teh suggestion from what i read on AV forum that polk sub is definitely one of the best choices at that price range.. but the SVS is definitely all around better/best.. just depends on if you think you want to spend 450 on a sub.. im going to just because my budget allows and i think ive earned it working 16 hours a day for the last few months

the speakers also look good.. but unless im mistaken thats a 2 pair.. i think itll just be easier to get all 5 at once

i might also go with 5x SCS speakers for $595.00 + Sub for 450 for about 1050 + shipping.. i just cant resist ..lol i already broke my budget might have to delay the 5870

only about 250 dollars more for almost double the speakers

I wish but not these days those have past since starting a family lol.

Placing rubber inside of the boxes helps to, gong back 9 year ago now though and the shit was expensive and used to use car mats cut to size worked great with most speaker boxes gave more base control(does depend on the box as it can make it to small). Maybe those have it already sure hope so for that price then again i was in the UK back then it be like $1000 just for the sub lol.

If it's just you who is listening to it better with floor standing ones with filters. I've heard much better sound from 2 speakers than multi speaker setups if setup right but as you most likely know the zone to be in is smaller but does sound better though.

Well enjoy the waves of bass and hope the people who live close dont mind lol.

I hope that sub i'm getting can do what i want chances are it cannot but ya never know. Turning blobby base into notes that you feel though your body such a buzz.

BTW i think your amp be just fine but if you do decide to get a new one make sure you Liston to it in a shop 1st in a room..
