Big ouch from six years ago. I believe he was reffering to the mindset of the consumer in terms of market exposure. Then in 2005 AMD went on to double it's market share, only to lose most of it come Phenom time.

So far the best part of the thread is that its actually 'cue' in this case.

indeed its cue. A queue is a line (like waiting in line) a cue is a signal. (like signal the fanboys to show up)

I think its sad that Intel is willing to pay over a billion dollars to settle. Thats more of a blow to AMD in my opinion... its like handing your yapping dog a treat so he'll shut up. I'm no fanboy, but I mostly use Intel, but only because i'm usually behind the tech curve anyway so what I buy is cheap anyway, so AMD being cheaper isnt an issue.
As long as intel wasn't selling to OEM below cost (and they couldn't have been, there would be no way they'd stay afloat that way, because if i'm pretty sure most of thier income comes from OEM. The vast majority of people don't even know what a processor is, much less that you can buy a processor retail) then nothing is wrong.

All these comissions and companies whining a moaning about anti-competitive practices are just undermining the whole point of a free market. If OEMs lose those discounts from buying exclusively Intel, then prices go up. If Intel prices go up, AMD has more leg room to bump thier prices up. At the moment competition is where it needs to be. Intel is expensive and fast, AMD is cheap and still awesome. If you want cheap and fast go AMD, if you want the fastest no matter the cost, go Intel. No problem. Computers are dirt cheap right now, especially from OEMs. It was only a couple of years ago you couldnt even dream of buying an OEM computer for less than you could build one (of the same quality) Now you can get emachines for little over a hundred bucks when they're on sale, and they have 2 gigs of ram, intel dual cores, and pci-e slots! Mess with the market with all these rules and prices will just go back up.

I'm not a fan of either AMD or Intel in particular. Coming from a pretty objective perspective, I'd say that as bad as this is for AMD, Intel's bringing it up is more misdirection than it is a valid defense of Intel's tactics.

I honestly think you have a good point That would be very hard to argue with as it makes total sense,
but regardless it's still collusion and that is ILLEGAL,

And if I was going to argue

I would suggest Collusion such as this prohibits growth in free market Competitions and would ultimately discourage Fair pricing which is bad for the consumer and slows innovation
and is simply bad business and Such things put world economies into situations such as the present.

The thing is you have to have long term goals that are met by innovation and superior Product at an affordable cost you can't just cheat the competition....That's not good anything;)

This is almost as funny as the guys working for SonyEricsson, so many there who has an iPhone instead of an SE phone..
But see the ironi(irony) in the entire thing, the exec would rather go with an Intel or something else than AMD, that makes me wonder - is there anything wrong with AMD's cpu's??

Not collusion, *incentive.* Its not illegal if they were not selling below cost.
I suppose its just my opinion, but I dont see any way that Intel will ever completely destroy AMD. They have thier purpose, and they have thier own deals with OEMs. If thats the case, then I cant see it being a bad thing that Intel lowers prices, even if it is to make a deal (the entire definition of a free market... dont get me started on progressive/socialist buisiness laws, i'll probably have a heart attack) because that gets passed on to us. Like I said, with PCs as cheap as they are now (even with intel processors) there's no way i'd want to change a thing. AMD has thier niche (budget high performance, and budget OEM) and Intel has thiers (high performace, and high performance OEM). I like things the way they are. Sure AMD wants to be the top dog, but I'd be willing to bet they really arent hurting atall from these "deals" that intel makes. Hell, quite your whining, AMD, and make your own damn deals! You had enough money to buy ATi, surely you've got enough clout to make some OEM deals of your own.

First off Like I said you made a great point and it's not that i totally disagree:D

But rules are Rules and they are made to be broken...

The difference here is It was Collusion Under Knife

Intel had Companies Collude under threat......
Example.. You use OUR products exclusively or we Offer your competition Lower prices and cut you out of the loop...after you already invested millions into producing product based off our technology..... That's bad

I would totally agree if Dell went to Intel for an exclusive Contract
such as they only use INTEL products and no other for a price cut... That's OK

EDIT: It's only ok if your WalMart @least according to our laws

Its all good man, i know you dont totally disagree. :toast: No disrespect meant.
Its all about free market though man. Government doesnt own intel, and shouldnt have any say in thier deals. (IMHO of course, I do not presume this to be fact. To each his own)
So ok, Intel says to me "If you buy AMD's products, we're going to offer your competitors lower prices and cut you out of the loop."
My response? "Who cares motherf***** I'm buying AMD what do i care what your prices are?"
And if I had already spent millions investing in Intels architecture BEFORE signing a contract with Intel (that would have let me know about the "deal" in the first place, and I could have made an educated decision) if I did that before signing a contract, then thats my own damn fault for being an idiot. And if Intel is changing contracts, or offering these deals after contracts were made, then they need to be taken to court for THAT, not for "anti-competitive practices." The very word "anti-competitive practice" is an oxymoron. They're competing allright. Sure they're fighting dirty, but thats competition. Making everyone play like little sissies is anti-competitive IMO. Instead of bitching, AMD needs to step up thier game and play a little rough themselves. They've got the clout. Now get the stones.

And if Intel came to me and said "We're going to give you a discount if you buy only our products" I'd say "allright hold on lemme give AMD a call.... *ring* hey AMD, intel wants to force you out, what's it worth to you to keep supplying me with processors? What kind of discount can you give me?"

The problem here is that every company, both AMD and OEMs want the government to step in and play referee instead of hiking up thier socks and getting a little dirty. And Intel seems to be the only one with the balls to throw a few checks into the mix. And believe you me, the more checks, the more punches that companies throw, especially two power players like AMD and Intel, the lower prices get.

Of course this will look bad, if taken completely out of context like it was.

Someone at Intel's PR must be pretty desperate for anti-AMD marketing to pull off something like this.

I didn't need to read anything besides that sentence to understand that he was referring to a time where AMD cpus and compatible motherboards couldn't be seen at local stores, and resellers were telling all their customers that Intel CPUs were the way to go. -> which was AMD's deal breaker in winning this case.

How loud can I say "DUH!!!" ?
