help with gpu

so i recently built a computer and everything seemed alright. however when i started playing games my fps would be at 100. about 5 minutes later it will suddenly drop to 7... what is wrong with this? is it a bad gpu? or is this sumthing else?

g skill ram(i forget its ddr3 1333 tho)
antec tp750 psu
sapphire 5770 vapor x(havent fixed the shader issue yet, havin a bit of trouble)
WD 750gb black
coolermaster cm690
sunbeam core contact freezer

u prolly didnt need all that but just to be safe. anyway, im not sure its overheating cuz the card has excellent cooling. could it be game settings?

@ what resolution is your screen? A 5770 should game easily @ 1920" with some aa and af. It depends on the game actually. In what specific games is it doing it? Could you be more specific cause its pretty much complicated finding a bug in pitch black

cod4, it was acting up at 1650. however i tried 1080 or sumthin around there and it didnt rly act up. however i didnt try it too long. could the res be the issue?

I can play cod4 @ 1920x1080 with a 9800gt on high, so its unlikely the issue. But what about aa and af? cause even though i game @ that resolution, i have to tone down aa and af.

Anisotropic Filtering, it improves focus on the distance drawing.

Sounds like it's the cpu freaking out, not the gpu, it always causes this kind of framerate buggery (I've had a decent amount of experience of it happening to me when i had the crappy stock amd fan and my oc).

Download speedfan, to see what it says about your core temps. if they're high (60C+)consider replacing the thermal paste/reseating the heatsink or taking off any overclocks on the cpu, even though your cooling is excellent, it may just be that it needs reseating.

Does it randomly slow down like this just for a moment and then go back to normal or does it just crap out for good until you restart the game or the computer?

Things I would do:

1. Memtest. Test the stability of your RAM. You can also do this by just removing a stick and running the system and see if one of the sticks is bad.

2. Background processes. There could be some application that you have running that performs a specific task every once in a while. Might wanna go and exit/quit everything that's hiding in your system tray and see if it still does it.

driver didnt fix, however..

i found out that if i just tab out of the game to desktop, and then go back in my fps goes back to 100. wat could this mean? i feel like its something really simple

Well we know you got DRR3 but how many GB's?
What OS are you using?

Disable Cool & quiet , AMD Overdrive & all save power mode in windows & bios (i never use those i want my pc @100% all the time , i shut down my pc once i finish anyway)
