I have a Swiftech Apogee GT CPU Cooler Block and i have it mounted on a I7-920/Asus Rampage II Gene board that has 775 and 1366 mounting holes. is this a proper block for a 17-920 @ 4.2ghz and beyond? Is there another one out there that i could get that would cool better?

Idle temps are about 35deg cel

Full load is about 63deg cel.

This is currently one of the top waterblocks on the market. Latest reviews placed it in first place, even beating the HeatKiller 3.0.

http://www.frozencpu.com/products/9...ock_Sockets_775_1156_1366.html?tl=g30c323s835

http://www.madshrimps.be/?action=getarticle&articID=979

I just picked one up a few days ago and upgraded my system from the same block you have. My temps dropped a good 5c-6c at load. Also switch to MX3 thermal compound.

You are on drugs sir. That block does not beat the HK 3.0, but even so a new king has arisen. EK Supreme HF.

What is the rest of your loop like? Radiators especially. I don't think you'll see much of a change if the loop is pretty saturated already.

Push Vs Pull - This depends on fan speed/power. The high speed fans at 2000RPM with a 38mm fan thickness provided the best performance in a push condition. The slow speed fans with 1350RPM with a 25mm fan thickness provided the best performance in a pull condition. I would estimate that performance line is likely to cross in the 1500-1700RPM range where they are equal. So.... slow speed = pull, high speed = push, medium speed = it doesn't really matter.

i've been reading a german review that Swiftech XT is still the king against Supreme HF, but on Xtremesystems forum some said that Supreme HF can do even better against the Swiftech XT and Heatkiller 3.0 if silicone mod on it :)

As far as i know, that Swiftech XT also will get a better temp doing a silicone mod.

the waterblock is only as good as your radiator can dissipate the heat.

Anyone who told you that a new block would improve temps without knowing the rest of your values are jumping the gun here.

Also u listed motherboard values, im guessing, the cpu value listed on your motherboard.
This temp probe is taken directly under your cpu, and has very little reflection on how well the block is holding up.

Can you use a real temp monitor program such as CoreTemp, or RealTemp, and get Tjunct. Temps.

These should have 4 numbers if your cpu is quadcore, and 2 if its a dual.
I dont think your running a hex yet, so you dont require RealTemp GT.

But if your lacking component is your rad, buying better fans, would be a cheaper and greater benefit over a fairly decent cpu block your holding onto.

i have a swifttech dual 120mm rad and i will soon add another single 120mm rad that will go on the back of the case :)

now fans is my main concern. should i do a push/pull or just a push?

Yes fans will net you a great deal, however the price is noise.

As i said, we needed to know the rest of your eq and values to help you determine what would net you the most gain.

Thanks Naekuh! thats some usefull info! i have a swiftech dual rad and a unknown brand single rad. what is a good rad brand?

are u after quiet?

The XSPC rads are right now the top dog.
Full copper rad, excellent FPI for low noise fans.

Are you deaf like i am? :nutkick:
Nothing will beat a GTX series rad with san ace screamers....

Did you ever think about stacking 2 MCR's together to keep the foot print smaller?
Stacking works, (IF you have a good fan to push enough air though the rear rad).

Hehe.. u guys see why i was called the ZipTie God on XS. :p

I don't want to hijack this thread, but what's the best quiet pump right now? I have a D4, and it is too damn noisy.

Of the pumps I've used

D4 & MCP350 are noisier

D5 (MCP655) & MCP355 were quiet.

Whats your time frame paul?

Gabe is releasing a DDC thats PWM, but its under testing conditions right now.
Its a 4 pin DDC which works on PWM.

You wont beat that even on a D5.

After that it would be a downvolted D5... the vario.
Anything below setting 3 is very quiet.

Then if you really dont care about temps that much, id say Ehiem is about as quiet as you can get with a shoggy kit.

I need it next week, and it really needs to be "plug and play". I'd rather not have to do any mods etc. I'm so damn busy that I barely have time for the loop itself.

You cant go wrong with a vario D5.

Its the most expensive pump out there, but its vario.

So if u want / need the flow, you can crank it to 5, and if u want whisper quiet, you can dial it down to 3.

There also tanks... Vario D5 have one of the best service history out of all the H2O pumps out there.

Wait.. Ehiem beats it, but you could honestly piss further then a ehiem pump. :X

I figured that's what you'd suggest, though I'm hoping for a bit cheaper
