Moving to LCD

I plan to move to LCD monitors very soon, most likely when i pick up my main gaming rig( Quad core/5670/Win7X64/12GB/) early next month. And i plan to buy one for my secondary rig i am using now(Pentium D). I have a few questions:

#1 Can i still use VGA?
#2 For using CRT all these years, i never had any eye problems and everything seems to be safe, but i was curious is LCD safer over CRT and in what ways?
#3 My fav gaming resolution for CRT's are 1280x1024, perfect for gaming IMO, when i move to LCD, i want to use 1280X720, i was curious can i just buy any lcd monitor and i will have the option to use 1280X720?

1 depends on the monitor, most do still use VGA, some dont

2 It wont throw your back out when you are just trying to move the screen to dust

3 I wouldnt lower the resolution, if anything I'd be looking at a 1650x1080 screen over the 1280x1024.

Perhaps a 1440x900? They are definitely cheaper and most have VGA connections.

I plan to buy LCD monitors from pawnshops/thrieft stores, so i only paying around 50 dollars for them, instead of 100+200 plus bucks which they cost in stores

Um no. I don't want to game like that, 1280x1024 or 1280x720 is the way i play, always.

1280x720 is gone and dead.

If you get a cheap, second hand small, low res LCD... you're getting a terribly low quality piece of junk, that will look worse than a CRT.

Make the plunge, buy a 19+ or larger widescreen LCD using 1440x900 or 1680x1050.

But those are well outside his budget.

Hmmm, i do recall seeing a 19" asus LCD, with only a VGA connection - about $100 Au new, and it was 1360x768 as well

i have a dell LCD monitor that uses 1600x1200. i dont know if that res is good but it looks fantastic to me

i have a view sonic va1912wb and it is 1440x900 but i play at 1280x720 so when i record with fraps it is easier to edit.

its obvious he won't "game" on 1680x1050 because the graphics card he will ALWAYS buy won't be able to handle it or it will handle it but get low FPS and need to tweak the settings to get good FPS to play on the resolution

Also sneeky mentioned "VGA" because a lot of monitors and LCD screens uses VGA ports still and yes all new video cards these days have DVI port but not all monitors/LCD come with DVI port.

I have moved from 1280x1024 to 1680x1050 and i am loving the resolution.

kurosagi01 brings up a good point. Your low powered systems can't power the larger LCD's, so you need to get another 1280x1024 monitor but in LCD. LCD monitors have better picture quality IMO and you can find 1280x1024 monitors relatively cheap at pawn shops & online as well.

BTW, I like the Tatu avatar you have up, those girls are definitely cuties.(and they aren't really gay too!)

Gaming aside, I feel cramped when I'm using anything lower than 1680*1050. You can have two A4-documents side by side with this res and while I'm not a huge fan of widescreen, there are numerous advantages. For gaming I really like 1280*1024 though, it's a sweet spot.

When I bought the monitor I have now (see sys specs), I was worried that the games I mostly play (tied to 640*480 unless a kind soul modded it) would be unbearable, but it works suprisingly good actually.
