FARMVILLE

A survey conducted on Nov. 9, 2009 estimated 63.7 million active users that play Farmville. As of January 2010 there were over over 75.2 million active users and over 18.1 million fans according to wiki.

Farmville is a real time farming simulations (yes, a farming simulation) developed by Zynga. This social networking game was released on June 19, 2009 and is associated with Facebook. But was also released on MSN's Games on February 4, 2010. This game allows for both single and multiplayer interaction and is currently only available online as a web browser based media.

The purpose of this game is to earn Farm coins to buy farming equipment, seeds, animals etc to create a farm. There are various ways to earn money in this game and other ways which are controversial (signing up for Netflix, etc). Social interaction can involve networking with friends who can become neighbors in this game and help each other to earn Farm Coins, etc.

This game gives me the impression that it's as addictive as Wow for some of the people I know that play this game. I'm talking about people who typically don't play games. If you want to learn more you can go to their homepage or to Wiki.

Tons of my friends and family members are addicted to this game. Most of them do not fit into the standard definition of what you would call PC gamers yet they spend ridiculous amounts of time on this game.

Sometimes I get the urge to warn them about dangers of such time-wasters, but then again I'm the one who spends countless hours hunting down badly pixelated aliens in various DOS-era X-Com games, so who am I to talk about it?

I got tons of invites every day. So I tried it to see whats it all about. I got bored real soon. The invites never stopped.

I almost stopped watching our local news in the morning after they had a segment about this almost a month ago. They even had a real farmer try it out and he said it would be alot more interesting when the user has to fix broken equipment and deal with market values in real time.

Ugh, this game... Almost everyone plays it at my school for hours on end. If I wanted to water something or pull weeds, I'd go outside!

Jeez, I play video games to do things I can't to in normal life...

Haha, I'd forgotten about that! During exam leave last year I ended up playing on this to try and soak up a bit of the time I was meant to be revising in, I remember being more bored than I was when I started!

it's very popular with people who don't mind mindless dribble.

i can't stand that 30/35 family members (on my moms side of the family) play it.

because I am not into simple things/timewasters (can't call it a game) like that, I fail to see its appeal.

Same here, I can't stand these facebook games. My big questions is: does it carry spyware? I now a lot those free web games do and myspace etc. Is full of adware and such.
