AMD 5830 to have higher max board power than 5850?

Take a look at these AMD slides posted at VR-Zone.

I'm sad to see just how badly the 5830 got gutted. For starters, it looks pretty confirmed to have 1120 shaders rather than 1280. And look at the ROPs; the number got halved to match the 5770!

And after all this, it will have a higher board power consumption than the 5850? I mean, yes, the 5830 is clocked 75mhz higher, but has a ton disabled...?

If this thing doesn't handily beat an HD 4890, then I don't think this is the card I want to see AMD use to fill the void between the 5770 and 5850.

Great disappointment, a great card is just a shadow of its former self. A result of a lack of competition. :p

Granted, this thing could still prove to be a winner if AMD prices it right. I remember the initial word was $199, but that got bumped to $239. At $239, this will likely be a terrible buy.

Personally, my HD 4870 does everything I need to do at 1080p (not including AA or Very High DX10 with Crysis). Thus, I don't have any intention of buying into the HD 5xxx series until I can purchase an HD 5850 for under $200. Hopefully when (/if) Fermi shows up, that won't be too far further into the future.

Well when it comes to competing with anything else, it should technically be 35-40% faster then a HD 4870 and or GTX 260, while only being 50-60 dollars more, ontop of that support more monitors, overclock better, use LESS POWER, AND have dx11. If its 240 and you can buy a regular GTX 260 for 200-180 dollars new then its a no brainer. It will be faster then a GTX 285 to. You have to remember even though nvidia dosnt have new cards out yet, they could still compete with nvidia's old hitter's and they will have the better buy even if they price it at 239.99 :D

Which already infringed on the 5870 sales. :p
On the other hand the HD x850 is always where the cash come for ATi.

This is the exact answer for all the guys whining about the 128-bit bus on the 5770.

We need to know final price (and relative performance to 5850) before call it great bang , at 239$ it is a loser . 5850 costs 354 $ with VAT to me , 5830 239$ MSRP in US = 330$ with VAT in my country .Do you think it is a great bang for buck?

Cheaper boards, with weaker power setups, always consume more power.

As for beating the HD4890, I'm sure it will, but not by much. Should overclock way out of the HD4890's range though.

This is the exact answer for all the guys whining about the 128-bit bus on the 5770.

Well, the HD57xx Series is due for a revamp. They were talking about revamping it by adding a 256bit bus to it since the Juniper core does support 256bit GDDR4/3 and GDDR5. They just wanted to wait till yields got higher and the HD4870/90 dies got sold off.

edit-
Now I am enjoying my HD5770. Its a step up from my HD4850 512mb. Even if the HD4850 was running at HD4870 speeds 24/7. I will not be getting an HD5830 because well.. I planned on HD5770 Crossfire.

For them, it ends up being 24ish sterling less, about 46 or so dollars.

The dual fan setup on the first one looks nice and cool. @ $240 should be a steal. If it overclocks nice. x3 crossfire anyone? :D

In a state of flux...
Have you people already forgot how it played out with the 4770/4830/4850????

The 4770 ended up being by far the better buy than any of the other two cards.....I assume its just the same with this gen of cards.

The way I look at this is the following:

5770 - 4870
5830 - 4890
5850 - 4870x2
5870 - GTX295
5890 - Clear winner.

All the above are rounded up/down to its closest rival in terms of performance.

Looking at the current 5xxx prices, they are pretty damn good value compared to their previous gen counterparts. :)

Your right, but tbh they are all overpriced at the moment.. The 5850's should be $250 and the 5830 around 200... but they are a hot ticket items right now. :shadedshu

Its the same price as a top end 4890 brand new.

( I.E Asus EAH 4890 with super ml cap and epic cooling)

I'd say it was worth it really.

Especially as the card will be much cooler then 4890, slap after market cooling on it and I bet the card flies.

1 ghz I bet.

Aye I recon that card will clock very nicely with no need for after market at all, cooler is the size of Acelero twin Turbo which is a pretty decent cooler : ]

Still if I got one of these cards I already have after market so stock will be coming right off XD

Um yeah the 5850 is more like a 4850x2. Its no where near a 4870x2.

In a state of flux...

Using the better drivers out now my table is about right. :)

Note: I also said I rounded up/down the performance figures to its nearest performing rival.
