They made an HD 4890, are there any plans on a Radeon HD 5890? Weren't they supposed to make an HD 4890 X2 but scrapped the idea?

Highly likely but as Phxprovost said, no one really knows, if they do I can see it starting out with 2gb instead of 1gb, if or when they bring these cards out, I will be getting 2 of em. Can anyone smell crossfire!:D

Just have to wait for nvidia to release their shit and see what happens!:D

Isn't Trillian a Three-core HD 3870 on a single PCB? The 3870's are antiquated. A 5870 has more than 3x the power of a single HD 3870.

Now think about three 5870 cores on a single PCB. And then crossfire two such cards. Heaven....:)

ATI have already confirmed a 5890 is in the works, infact they're planning an entire refresh of the 5 series at some point this year.

5860 and 5890 are for certain.

( seems they've held back higher binned chips lest NV come out with the goods  )

What about the Radeon HD 6xxx series which are slated for a 2011 release, along with AMD's "Bulldozer" processors.

I sincerely doubt the 6 series cards will be out next year, its normally a tleast 2 years before a new series of cards.

not necessarily, from my experience with 3 or 4 different 4850s and 2 4870s, at launch those drivers were buggy, and didnt get better for a while, never had a 4890 so no idea how those were, but definitely had much mature drivers at the time, cant say ive see the same problems on the 5k series cards, so my guess is had all the bugs worked out from the 4k series so released something new and better, could last a couple years with various minor updates and refreshes

Will the Radeon HD 6xxx series have DX12 graphics?

depends on what is the standard at the time, DX11 hasnt even been out a full year yet, so no idea where MS could be on DX12 if theyve even started with it yet

Is there even a DX12 platform?

nope, DX11 debuted with win 7 in OCT, not sure if/what games have true DX11 support

yea HD 6XXX series will have to launch in 2011 if not leaks n whatnot by the end of this year. Nvidia is in a pickle with fermi right now but by the end of htis year 28nm is supposed to be in use and by then nvidia will more than likely have most bugs with fermi fixed and at 28nm, Nvidia should be able to increase clocks and of course just improve efficiency. i believe when they do that it'll surpass the HD 5XXX series by a good bit and ATI being on top right now will want to keep that lead. HD 6XXX next yr forsure imo.

A 5890 would definately be a good thing. By experience, it is known fact that when ATI designed the 4890, they took the 4850/4870 core and they redesigned it taylor made for the 4890 (which I own one). So, it should be assumed that the 5890 will be a redesign of the 5850/5870 gpu for specific performance gains. I would suspect that the gpu of an 5890 would get a nice 75 to 100mhz overclock compared to 5870 (so around 925 to 950 mhz) and that the memory should get also a nice bump up (say 1.35 to 1.4 ghz, meaning 172.8 to 178.2 gb/s). The combined gpu + memory upgrade should yield around 15 - 20% performance increase over the 5870, and voilà!

On the other hand, I might be totally wrong here.

have to agree. The HD 4890 even has its own drivers, whereas the rest of the HD 48XX series have the same download of drivers. I've always believed that ATI not only tweaked the core but also put more work into the HD 4890's drivers than the HD 4870/50's once it was released.

Well yea, the HD4870 is a RV770 GPU while the HD4890 is an RV790 GPU. So they are really two different things.
