It's been a while since I've built a new PC, as I've been adding stuff/upgrading parts in my existing system shown in the specs.

Few important things to note are:
1. I want very high bang for the buck
2. For the most part, I would be playing games on it
3. I would upgrade the video card every 18 months or so, but no CF/SLI

I would be adding some parts from the old rig, such as the x-fi xtremegamer card, g15 keyboard, g5 mouse, kingston 40gb SSD and the samsung 1tb HDD

I only need to buy a CPU, Mobo, HSF, RAM, Video card, Display, PSU and Case.

These are what I have decided to buy, and I need suggestions for the rest.
1. CPU: Intel Core i5 750 (will OC as high as I can with the following cooler)

2. Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212+ (let me know if you suggest a better cooler, in the sense, half the price and only 10% less efficient etc.)

3. Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-P55A-UD3 (USB3/SATA3 support) (any other better mobo in this price range?)

4. Video card: ATI HD5850 1GB (haven't decided on brand and model yet. suggestions?)

5. PSU: CORSAIR CMPSU-550VX 550W PSU (suggestions? somewhere around $100 should do. cheaper the better, without sacrificing quality)

6. Case: Cooler Master 690 (I need a lot of room, easy installation, hard drives accessible from side, but not much flashy items)

7. Display: Some 22" should do. I need a very cheap LCD. I'm thinking about adding more to get eyefinity working, so I was wondering if a resolution of 1680x1050 is the way to go, because i will never use the very best of graphics cards NOR CF. probably, i will buy an HD6850 or HD7850 once I feel the HD5850 is not fast enough. i'm currently running at 1280x1024, so even 1680x1050 is a big upgrade :D

8. RAM: I need 8GB RAM, because I won't be using a pagefile because of the SSD. DDR3-1600 preferred. Will DDR3 1333 lower my OC on the CPU? I have no idea how to OC an i5/i7, just yet. Remember, no fancy low latency sticks. Something "average" :)

Note: All these parts will have to be bought from Japan. >_<

Hm The build looks really solid. I might throw in some cases though, you can have a look @ the hafs, or cm 690, they are pretty nice cases @ affordable prices.

Cooler: The megahalems is good, but if you are looking for a high b4b, there's the CM Hyper 212+, I saw a shootout on the 1156 platforms (which is really rare, don't have a link though) where it fared really well and was even recommended over high end air coolers, because the price was so low (2-4 degrees higher than the true, @ $30 bucks, nothing can beat it price to performance ratio) It even comes with support for 1156 out of the box (a lot of coolers will have you buy a mounting bracket, beware)

excellent. that's an affordable price for a cooler. it's not $30 in Japan, but reasonable :)

checked the HAF-932. Looks very nice! But it's very expensive in Japan, about $250. The 690 is about half the price, or even less sometimes. So I will opt for that.

This configuration will consume well under 400w even at maximum load (closer to 300w), so you'd be fine, get decent efficiency, and have some leeway with a 450w PSU. The Corsair 450VX or 550VX would give you great quality for your money.

You can also check the Haf 922, it should be way cheaper than the 932, if you really like the design. :toast: Same looks (albeit some refinements here and there) nearly same cooling power.

You might want to take a look at the Antec 902. If you are only getting 1680X1050, the 5850 will last you 2+ years.

HAF-922 is also about $200. I'd go for the 690. Is the interior spacing similar between the two? Or the 690 is smaller?

True that, but isn't having some headroom keep the PSU running cooler? But the 550W model seems promising.

That and I wanna try out eyefinity when the technology gets mature. Since I don't think I will ever buy the highest end solutions from either company, it is better to stay away from 1920x1080 or higher resolutions. probably i'm just thinking far too ahead. because by the time i make up my mind to go eyefinity, i might have to ditch the cheap-ass LCD that i'm gonna buy now, and buy 3 similar displays.

All the Corsair models can reliably and safely cool themselves (as well as removing some heat from the case) even running at max load 24/7. I advocate selecting a group of good PSUs, and then choosing the one that is most efficient at the system's average power consumption level. Example:

Say your system draws a full 300w for four hours per day, and 150w for the other 20hrs of every day (after all, unless you run something like Folding@home, your system doesn't spend most of its time under heavy load). The system's average power consumption is 175w. The Corsair 550VX is most efficient under ~275w load and the 450VX is most efficient under ~220w load. In the long run, the 450w will have a lower operating cost, and as the two PSUs are of the same quality, it would be the better choice, depending on what upgrade may be in store for your rig down the road.

Makes sense. I'll keep those options open then. If I could lower the price somehow, that would be ideal. Even a $50 difference is substantial at this point. I won't run F@H. At best, it would be downloading stuff overnight, but I don't think I will have to leave it running at night if I'm in Japan. Internet must be blazing fast. So basically, I will be watching movies, browsing and playing games on the PC. Possibly a little bit of video converting, to upload to youtube. :)

Antec 902 is about 3000 yen more expensive than the CM 690. i'll stick with the CM 690

I cant comment on the cm690 (I've not worked with it, although I've seen it), but what I can say is that the 922 is a really big and fat case, it's in fact fatter than the 932. It will last you a couple of years. If they are in the same price range, I'd go for the 922. Is the cm690 the old model or the new cm690 II? Worth looking at too.

i was hoping to use even the CM 690 for a long long time, much more than 2 years. if i buy the HAF, i might keep it as long as ATX standard lives. :D

yes apparently
i'm leaning towards the HAF-922 as well. i still haven't figured out how much i can spend on the rig. i don't wanna cut corners to lower the price, nor i wanna spend a lot of money over an alternative (in this case, the CM 690) for a little gain. but the HAF series seems worth the investment. :)

Remember Anusha, quite a few apps require a page file. Figured I would just drop by and take a look to see what you have so far. I like the build though. I wouldn't change anything.

I do currently use an SSD with 4GB RAM without the pagefile. For what I do, that is adequate. But with a larger display and AA, i suppose having more RAM is important to not get a crash while playing a game. 8GB is my ultimate goal. More than that is not feasible AT ALL.

OK just mentioning it. I didn't want to you to end up having problems. :)
