Hi all,

Just as the title says. What's the first and 2nd game you will play when you get your new 470/480GTX video card?

1: BF BC2 :)
2: Hopefully a DX11 game will be bundled with the new card. I will play that 2nd. :nutkick:

BTW I have seen this question on another forum and I thought it will be fun, if we did the same here.

I don't know what dx11 would be bundled atm tbh :) all dx11 games are AMD partners, including bc2. it'd be like having twimtbp game in an ati bundle, although bc2 could be an option since nvidia have got 3dvision in bc2 and AMD aren't so restrictive with their scheme for helping devs compared to twimtbp scheme.

Odds are it'll be some fairly ok dx10 game though at best.

People are actually buying that card?

Well, it is def. faster than the card I currently have. Plus it has CUDA. If the 5870 supported CUDA, I would of def. bought me a nice 5870 card :)

Even though CUDA is nice and all, I can't say I am aware of using it anywhere. I really wouldn't want to have that power hungry monster in my machine, in fact, I'd probably need a new PSU if I did. ATI seems the better choice right now. Then again I don't need a new videocard.

it'll probably sell as much as the gtx280 did, which wasn't a fat lot compared to the hd4870.

hmmm so the cards are released in the 26th in the usa and on the 27th in the UK, I was expecting wiz to do a review tommorow(a day early lol), but since he's in germany i think . . . . the 27th would be more understandable i guess.

I hoping for the best for fermi but I . . . . . well you know.

I am true believer of ATI now, although I did start out with NVIDIA. IMO ATI has an amazing price / perf ratio all the time.

NVIDIA has now failed to catch up to ATI and beat it. Also, did the GTX4xx series say it has DX11 or no?

Gotta see how it performs first, but probably going to wait for another generation of cards to come out before I get an upgrade -and that's only if my card can't keep up with new games I might be playing.

we don't know that yet, all we know is that the GTX470 and 480 are DX11, if they play their old game then some will only be DX10/10.1 revised cards.

It's meant to compete with the 5850. Have most of the people commenting in this thread been living in a cave?

Meant to compete with the HD5850? I'm sure you are also one that believe the GTX280 was meant to compete with the HD4870...

I don't see how anyone can see a price point of $350 on the GTX470 and say it is "meant" to compete with the $300 HD5850.

NV said it themselves that the 470 would be 10% faster than the 5850, and the 480 would be 15% faster than the 5870.

The 5870 is 15% faster than the 5850 at stock. Technically these cards are still only competing with the 5850 because the 5870 is bottlenecked. A 5850 matching the clocks of a 5870 performs the same. The average 5850 overclocks over 1GHz which is 27.5% overclock from stock to 1000MHz.

Wait wait wait wait wait...there is so much wrong with that it hurts...:shadedshu

1.) Saying it is faster, isn't saying it is meant to compete with it.
2.) The 5870 isn't bottlenecked, if that was the case we wouldn't see performance gains from crossfire, and there wouldn't be a need for the HD5970.
3.) A HD5850 matching the clocks of a HD5870 does NOT perform the same. Something about the 160 missing shaders...I don't know, maybe it is all crazy talk.
4.) According to W1z review, the HD5870 is only about 12% faster than the HD5850, so the GTX470 being 10% faster puts it right in line with the HD5870 doesn't it...they statement would have been more accurate if they said the GTX470 is 2% slower than the HD5870, but that doesn't sound as good from a marketting stand point...though I'm not one to really believe anything either manufacturer says, I'll wait for W1z to give proper performance numbers without bias.
