Downclocking memory hd 5850

Hi there,

I'd like to downclock memory to 800mhz on my hd 5850 but CCC's control limit allows a minimum setting of 900. In RBE I've found overdrive limit increasing section (2 methods) but it only refers to the upper limit. Would it be enough just to change clock info 00 setting from 725 / 1000 to 800/800 or maybe that would mess up ccc limits?

Interesting question. I think, I tried that before and it worked. But I'm pretty sure you will have to disable overdrive for that.

Thanks for the fast response. Gotta mixed feelings about this but maybe I'll try and see what happens.

Completely uninstall everything ATI related, except drivers. Then Install "Afterburner+AMD CLock Tool" (both needed) o Ati Tray Tools (more options)

Mate, thanks for such a great utility. I've downclocked memory to 800mhz, everything works fine and you know what - ccc states that "Overdrive functions weren't properly initiated, please try again later". Therefore, as I can see, whatever settings you're going to use, after bios flashing overdrive just won't launch anymore.

less heat & power used in 2D mode :) for those without a real low voltage 2D mode :(

My hd 5850 goes to 75C in normal stress conditions and 80C with heaviest load (Crysis, Metro 2033). Lowering the mem clock to 800mhz and overclocking core to 775 from standard 725/1000 gives me 65C to 70C and better performance.

Those temps seem so high, do u have a custom cooling solution?

I thought you were downclocking for some kind of benchmark comparison, I can't imagine memory speed would have a profound difference in your temps compared to a core overclock.

Your card's behavior seems awfully strange, to me at least.

It's also strange that CCC doesn't want to recognize a downclock like that, when the 2d downclocks are 157/300.
