AMD to launch first Intel motherboard chipset in December

The AMD RD600 is AMD's first Intel chipset, and DFI is expected to get the first batch. It has been constantly delayed by AMD, and some companies, like Sapphire, decided not to make any motherboards using this chipset. The RD600 is expected to be a much easier overclocker then anything Intel has right now, including the 965 and 975 chipsets.

AMD Fanboys must be turning in their graves MUHAHAHAH. I mean really, they are paying homage to their competitor to make money. Well, that's one way to pay back that loan for merging with ATI, MUHAHAHA!!!
Intel come first while their loyal fanboys are drifting in the wind.

Because, for the foreseeable future there will always be people buying Intel processors. If AMD makes chipsets that support Intel processors than they can still generate revenue from those people. It doesn't hurt their sales at all, as long as they have a competitive AMD platform as well.

Not sure about the first part... the AMD fanboys will always exist, but you're right that it won't hurt their sales. People aren't suddenly going to say "Oh... look, AMD chips! I can buy Intel now!" They're going to chose a CPU manufacturer and base the board they want on that, so if the AMD chipset works better than some of the competitors AMD make money from it. You might even argue it will be good publicity for AMD if it performs well and might even tempt people to try their CPUs (more in the future then now I admit).

AMD/ATI think that it is a good enough chipset to not only compete with nVidia's offerings, but to gain them more money (considering intel's increased sales as well).

You just misunderstood. I wasn't too clear so it's partially my fault. I just meant people aren't going to stop buy intel CPU's. AMD producing compatiable chipsets just gives those people a better selection.

They would be pretty daft to cut themselves out of the Intel market, you can't keep a NB division afloat making Chipset for what's currently a *very* small minority of the market.

Its simply good business sense, they're not going to stop making Intel chipsets any more that they're going to stop ATI GPUs working on Intel PCs.

Anyway, back to the OT, Yey, finally a C2D chipset that might interest me enough to upgrade.

Well by the end of 2005 they had a 21.4% market share of new CPU sales which although small isn't that awful. Admittedly I don't know what Core2Duo has done to those figures.
