Well, I think the FS/FT Forum Rules are debateable...

This is a statement of fact.

W1zz, I have to draw you in on this since you are the owner of the site.

It is in my opinion that the rules in the BST forum are debate-able because its the users who make it what it is. The risks are simple, trade at your own risk. The rules there shouldn't be rules at all. It should be "Guidelines" and not enforced with a "BanHammer" unless a user violates the law.

What is your opinion on that statement W1zz?

I see all rules as guidelines and will follow them to the extent that I can and so far, I have without trouble. I am sure others will agree with me on this.

So... without further ado, Mods, feel free to "not debate" all you want. My opinion stands.

Fly, we will debate with you.
We will discuss what is going on in the forums and how we can perhaps make it better for all involved.
What Paulie posted in his thread was not up for debate. He was stating that people who do not follow the rules will be warned. To me that makes a lot of sense, as the rules are there for the members' protection not us.

Please feel free to comment, as this is the section to do so.

Who said rules weren't debateable?

I'm sure we will listen to any good idea, when and if they peek out of the dark.

As far as the BST rules, they have to be strict to satify everyone. We constanlty get reports of things from no pics, to no names in pics, even down to members not liking what the OP says in his sale. So along many years, and I have been here quite some time to see it all first hand, these rules are a direct result of bad deals, scams, and the pursuit to protect the members at large.

As far as a ban goes, I would rather hope the poster would post one right FS thread out of 6 that he would need to get to a vacation;)

The rules are here to protect the members of TPU. Try doing a search for "maudio3", and you'll know EXACTLY why we have rules. There are too many dishonest scammers out there to NOT have some common sense and easy to follow rules.

http://forums.techpowerup.com/showthread.php?t=72296&highlight=maudio3

i spotted that scam by time i read the 1st post.

i even called it in the thread at one point but no one listened

EDIT: oh yeah... no one listened because MY POST WAS DELETED FOR BEING ACCUSING AND BEING OFF TOPIC.

I used to have a problem with the rules when they at the mods discretion. You might get one on a good day that would let a lack of pic slide, then the very next day get you would try the same thing and your thread would be deleted.

Now, the rules are simple and get enforced equally.

I think the rules are fine. If you don't want/have the energy to prove that you have an item, you shouldn't be trading in the first place.

I ain't debating the rules per say. I am debating the rules as they are enforced. Lets just put it this way-

Give a cop power and not limit it- this can happen...

Him?

So, looks like I shall retract my statement of congrats to this mod. Sorry.

I don't like authoritarian mods/admins. Never have and never will. If you feel like intimidating people not to debate what goes on in this forum, I can't support you.

Fly, please read post #3 of this thread.

I feel that all forums should have rules to go by. If the for sale forums did not have rules, it would be a fricking mess to be honest!

As stated, it is more a 'guideline' but still rules that need to be followed! Today for example, a member posted a for sale thread and stated that it would be too expensive to take pictures with his or her cell phone????? Do what?? Now come on, why even post something that way? And the member also stated that he or she was selling these items for a friend. That is fine as far as I can see, just as long as one can take a picture of the item with his or her user name.

i still say the mods arent following the rules they police as they expect us normal users to.

and every time a mod gets reminded they are not following a rule a hissyfit is thrown and that person goes and gives 25pt infractions to the person who caused them to get angry in the first place.

i mean come on... a friendly reminder is just that... friendly. right?

sorry if i've upset someone... that is not the purpose of this post at all.

Oh I did. The way you put it, did not state "In this thread".

You are right. I did not. We are perusing a ton of threads all the time, and sometimes we do not make ourselves as clear as we should. I apologize for not making that clear.

You opening this thread for discussion was the right thing to do. Many times things get hectic and fuzzy, and clearing the air and discussing it is always helpful for all of us.

Thank you.

Like I has insinuated (as I don't believe I have stated it) I follow the rules to the best of my abilities and understandings. If erocker had stated "No debate will be allowed in this thread" right at the start, I would not have posted there. I sat there for 2 minutes thinking.. "Can we post here? Would it be an infraction?" then, I just decided whatever... and went for it.

After all this, I once again state my position as a "5 Minute" grace period should be mandatory. No more no less. If it takes longer than 5m, Delete the thread or lock it.. w/e. That's all that I am debating for.

Really? I think the mods are quite open to criticism. I believe if I remember correctly, that those friendly reminders of which you speak became excessive and redundant, which was the only issue there. Different issue though. Please stay on topic.

Thing is, your grace period is subjective. You say 5 minutes, then someone will say that's not fair, that it should be 10.

When I am watching the FS section, I usually wait for awhile before bringing up an issue with a thread. People do make mistakes. But the majority of the "mistakes" are simply people not following the rules.

We are (usually) not that strict, and will give people a chance.
Remember though, that if your thread is deleted you can simply ask for it to be restored so you can correct it. Not a big deal really.

Its only subjective if you don't enforce what is written.

Right, but who decides 5 minutes is appropriate, you? Everyone will have an opinion on this. No grace period is concrete.
