I gotta say that I'm disappointed with Gigabyte and Biostar. I figure when the 6 core chips were lauched, I'd have more 890fx selections than the Crosshair IV or the MSI 890fx-GD70. So, what should I do? My gut tells me to wait for Gigabyte, but for how long before they are available retail? Everyone is getting the Crosshair, so I'd like to get something different. However, I don't trust MSI. So, what would you do?

Looks like your only other alternative is the Asus M4A89TD pro, unless you wait (which I will do if i were in your position).

I would think in a couple more weeks there will be a bunch more to choose from. I've always had the best luck with AMD/Asus, so I went straight for the Crosshair IV.

Any reviews out there for the M4A89TD? Aside from a little Vdrop, the M4A79T is one of the best boards I've ever owned, and I wouldn't be surprised to see the legacy continue. The MSI 790FX was a really nice board. I do know some people had it die on them, meh...

There's always the option to wait for the Crosshair IV Extreme... Gigabyte always has the best slot configurations IMHO, though.

I'm thinking Gigabyte. I just wish I could get my hands on one now. I'm going to have a chip sitting in the box for way too long. :banghead:

I would personally wait for the CH IV Extreme. The only review of the MSI 890FX was underwhelming to me (which is disappointing b/c I really wanted to play with MSI this time around).

The Formula is nice, but apparently the Extreme is supposed to have improved power conditioning and better electrical parts which might lead to better/more stable OC's.

I will be honest and say that I am more concerned with the RAM overclocking ability of the 890FX chipset than the CPU OC'ing ability. I think the 790FX chipset did a great job when it comes to CPU OC'ing, but the chipset was limited by the memory clocks.

Hopefully AMD has remedied this with the 890FX.

I was surprised with the lack of 890FX boards at launch as well as the lack of non Crosshair reviews. I found zero on the M4A89TD Pro and one GD70 review (bit-tech.net). I bought my MSI partly because of the 12.3% Bing cash back and partly because of the Bit-Tech review/ Anandtech used it for his X6 review. I know a few people with MSI G series P55 and 790FX boards that love them.

My last three boards were Gigabyte and I had zero issues with them. I would have made it 4 if it had been available.

Well, I gave in and bought a Crosshair IV. Bought it from Tigerdirect with 12% Bing cashback and free shipping. So, it's really $219 total. I really wanted a UD7, but I'll get over it. Besides, the Crosshair will match my 5850s nicely.

I was already to be excited about the M4A89TD PRO. Then Asus decided to go and screw up the design by making all the sata ports point straight up. :wtf: :slap:

Seriously, this is bull.

They did that with the M4A79T Deluxe too. I have no idea why, but at least they put them in the proper place. Also I notice that on Asus boards their angled Sata connectors don't take kindly to cables with locks on them.

the most impressive for me is "HD Tach Serial ATA performance" .
Asus 890FX 348.2 MB/s
Gigabyte 890FX 312.4 MB/s
Impressive :)
Ah, must resist.
Lets hope I can hang on until the Corsshair IV Extreme. :p

Those clocks were under LHe(with LN2 temps); he had 6998, but didn't get a chance to validate.

Board bugged out under cold shortly after...took a heatgun to get going again.

Was done live @ teh BlackOPs event Friday.

why not try the new ASRock Boards? ASRock learned from there mistakes with the NB Heatsink issue PCIe x1 Cards couldn't be inserted due to the size of the NB Heatsink but ASRock made sure this wouldn't happened anymore as they learned Blocking the Slot was a mistake and thus' on some boards they moved that slot downward or they used a different Heatsink. anywasy though, the 880G, 890G, 890GM, and the 890FX! look good :)
