It can keep me entertained for about 30 minute at a time. It is a fun game so far...On a scale of 1 threw 10 I would give it a 6 or 7. as where Dirt 2 I would give a 10 and NFS Shift a 9 and Burn out a 6 or 7...I would say it was ALMOST worth the $28 i spent with the $15 cash back from direct2drive.

I have yet to try the multiplayer online yet and that will be where the real fun will be.

No PC demo. FU developers. Now i'll have to download war_ez version just to see how the game plays. Sometimes i'm thinking this is like artificial increasing of so called "pirated downloads" by the developers or publishers. Because i sure ain't stupid to buy any game blindly. And then they rely on ppl like me to brag about piracy. Well, then give us the damn PC demo as well.

Watch some videos on it then, Youtube based

Videos are no replacement for actual gameplay. I've downloaded war_ez version now and the game is just f**kin' awesome and no trailer can show you the feeling of whole buildings coming down on you or opponents. Have played just few laps so far but the game is just amazing in almost all aspects. Sure it sucks that there is no demo for PC and that menus are typical console ported, but everything else is just so damn fun.

Considering there aren't any good racing games on PC these days, the chance of me actually buying this game is VERY high. Because it feels like it's worth the money for a change. I'll test it some more but i already sent the inquiry to my usual game distributor if they can get the game in stock.
So far i've only seen X360 and PS3 versions. No PC version yet anywhere. Not even on Steam :(

I use bank transfer if possible. I may be old fashioned, but it's probably the most secure way you can imagine. I also work next to a bank and i drive past 2 when i go to work so no problem there.
Or payment after i get the goods delivered to my home. That's how i bought most of my games anyway.

I'm playing Quick mode now on medium and damn opponents are freakin tough. I just can't get past 2nd place on any track. Either i'm stomped back to 5th or worse or i get to 2nd and i always get beaten right before the finish. But not by a powerups but just by overtaking me. But i will nto give up!

Looks alright I guess..kinda reminds me of a Hot Pursuit 2 knock off though, where the cops are so enraged, they send in helicopters dropping explosives on you.

I had a laugh at the rating. I didn't know there was such a thing as 10+ "Violence."
I guess the games don't quite line up with the movies e.g. "PG 13" :)

What this game lacks are zombie pedestrians or something that you could run over, squash against walls and detonate into oblivion. That would be fun. :D

It feels like an arcade game alright, but I love it!

Bought it from Direct 2 Drive for $42. Speaking of which, has anyone checked out their "comrade" client? It makes direct2drive a lot easier to stand. Auto-patching makes their service 100% better, imho.

Anywho, here are some screenshots I have taken:

http://screenshot.xfire.com/s/97874347-4.jpg
http://screenshot.xfire.com/s/97868109-4.jpg

And some movies:
http://www.xfire.com/video/2b7ca5/
http://www.xfire.com/video/2b926f/

The amount of action on screen, the amazing graphics, and the game modes make it pretty awesome. Also, surprisingly, the game has splitscreen in addition to lan/internet multiplayer (on PC). I'd say the only negative so far is lack of an "advanced" graphics screen. You have to choose between low/medium/high/very high. High runs smooth as butter @1920x1200, but very high causes lag. Wish I could choose something in between. :(

Split Second PC demo:
http://www.fileplanet.com/212404/210000/fileinfo/Split/Second-Demo

EDIT:
Eliminator mode is so much fun. It's like a standard lap Knockout but here you're not knocked out by laps but by timer. If you're the last and timer runs out, you're a dead meat. After one gets elimitaed, the timer is reset again and again until only one remains and wins the race.
In a way, this game has an unique racing feeling that i only got in Burnout 3 game. So it's nice to see a similar game on PC as well.
And once you get Cobretti Iridium... :D The car drifts like crazy even on slightest corners, but once you master it, the powerplay bar will constantly be full and you'll wreck more opponents than ever. And i've also used major powerplay for the first time and opened up a new route in Downtown track. Man, this is what i always wanted but no one had guts to design. I changed a route and entire Seattle tower collapsed down and opened a wicked new route through the track. Can't wait to see others. As much as i hate the activation i'll yet again forgive it because it's just so damn fun thing. Not many games out there that i'm so forgiving to all the "mistakes" and bad business choices (DRm that is)...

I just played a Detonator mode. Again very similar to Burnout Time Trial. But (yet again) on steroids.
You have a time to beat but the entire world is coming down on you automatically so you have to dodge all the explosions and obstacles. It's really fun to drive. Completed the Season 1 and am awaiting new challenges in Season 2. Damn, i haven't had this much fun in PC racing game for years.

One thing though, the FPS is locked to 30fps and lots of ppl on my local forum are complaining heavily over it. But i just can't see any downside of it. Maybe because on my rig the game runs with truly constant 30fps using Very High setting easily. I don't know, controls feel right, graphics are smooth as silk, car control is perfect, i have no problems with timing. Usually games with locked FPS show something wrong under those attributes but not here for some reason.
What's your experience with this FPS lock?

Yes, that car is amazing! Also, the course changes are probably the coolest idea I have seen in an arcade racing game. It reminds me of hydro thunder, on wheels, but improved. :toast: As for the DRM, meh, as long as it is just activation and not anything that interferes with gameplay (looking at you Ubisoft), I am not too worried about it. I don't really think it is necessary, but online activation is pretty much the industry norm now.

Ah really? There is a vsync option... I wonder if that would actually unlock higher fps then.... (if no-vsync locks at 30). I'll have to fire up xfire and check what kind of FPS I am getting.

I'm downloading the demo right now. I'll give this game a chance to impress me although Dirt 2 set my racing expectations pretty high.

totally different than Dirt2 tho...no where near as snappy or crisp looking...But game play is fun for me once I get use to the 30FPS lock.

Yeah, this game makes Dirt 2 looks like a simulator. :p

That should tell you how over-the-top arcade style it is. :toast:

Well the demo doesnt even have the option to change resolution and the graphics looked like ass.:ohwell:

I dont mind the 30 fps lock of the over the top arcade action but being stick @ 720p on a 27" screen is a deal breaker for me.

No there is an option to change resolutions...on the menu screen with the seasons choice just use the arrow key to the right
for options then graphics.

There are probably certain .ini files in the main directory that control resolutions and Frame Speed Locks, etc.

Ensure to do a search for .ini etc, also enable the unhide function of known file types.

This is the first thing I looked for, in Appdata, my games, and program files.

All I could fine was config_ss.cfg in Documents/Disney Interactive/Split Second

However, it is not plain text, and it is only a few lines. So no good there. :(

Edit: Doesn't appear any way to unlock the fps cap. Setting Vsync to "On" does not appear to even change anything. I think somone dropped the ball on that setting when they ported. :(
