Vapor-X flashed with Asus Unlocked bios still no voltage changes in MSI Afterburner

i flashed my Sapphire Radeon HD5770 Vapor-X 1GB card (It has Samsung Memory on) with the Asus Unlocked from XS

but MSI Afterburner don't show Core Voltage even i when it's enabled and GPU-Z shows the Asus bios i used ATiFlash to flash the bios with the commander: atiflash -p -f asus.bin

to force flash it and it flashed it without a problem so i don't get it, is MSI Afterburner that can't use ATi Catalyst 10.4 or does my card just have voltage chip on that doesn't support software voltage adjustment?

Apologies if you already know for sure it has software voltage tweaking capabilities but perhaps that's the issue?

I think that your card is a non-reference.Non-reference cards haven't got the voltera chip(only reference have it) that allows to adjust the voltage by software.You flashed your card for nothing and now if something goes wrong your warranty is void.I consult you to flash the original bios again.

Picture of the card would help as I have the exact same thing. You wouldn't need a new bios, just check those couple thing for voltage.

puma, did you edit the config file to "allowunofficialoverclocking"? Field needs to be set from 0 to 1. Also, in "Settings" in Afterburner you need to tick the box to allow voltage control.

Are you saying you have a vapor-X with digital vregs? Please make that obvious in your post and Douglatins is being helpful.

i will see later today if i can get some pix of my card, but i only have camera in my Nokia N79 cellphone so the quality won't be that good, and OnBoard would you mind sharing your Sapphire Vapor-X bios too see if it will work on my card? still i doubt it will help but yet again why not

i have the same issue with my sapphire. sorry not to hijack but drivers aren't working for me. OC is sort of stable only at 1680x1050

the cards that have been tested here on TPU i can see some has chips like that and others on the front or back, they are not placed the same place, but still shouldn't do anything about the voltage control right?

well yes and no the voltage control is the job of the Vreg chip but only to an certain extent if the chip is not programmable it's hardwired to do a certain max voltage and thats it and the max voltage is what the bios can call for anything higher just gets ignored so if 1.2V max is what the Vreg is wired to do then telling it to do 1.25 will be ignored and a max of 1.2 will be supplied no matter what you do either via flashing the vBIOS or via software like after burner.. What you require to gain control of the core Vreg is an programmable voltage regulator and an vBios with higher voltage settings or software like after burner to adjust the max voltage being supplied to the Core

some may have an programmable Voltage regulator, they may have just run out of non programmable chips and made do with some that are it happens or vice versa but I'd say if they are advertising them as having adjustable vCore then you'd had good grounds for getting an replacement for one that does have it

I have done a quick perusal of over a dozen reviews of this card and frankly none of them ever mention upping the core voltage when OCing so if there are Vapor X cards out there with increasable core voltages they'd be the odd ones out

There is no software voltage control. Your wasting your time here. It is not a ref model card.

I have the identical Vapor-X 5770 card with the same Samsung memory chips and the voltage is definitely adjustable. When stress testing as you adjust the voltage higher the GPU temperature goes up. When you go lower, the GPU temperature goes down so this is definitely working. I don't know what the absolute maximum is but it's adjustable. Maybe I'll pull the card out for a photo session.

Have you done what erocker mentioned yet and what was mentioned in my post in the review thread?

Edit: I just noticed. The SKU# for your card is 11163-05. I likely have an earlier model which is a SKU# 11163-00 and it's possible that Sapphire changed something and eliminated voltage adjustment.

Yep, that's a blue PCB as in Sapphires own. None of them have voltage control, be it 5770, 5830, 5850 or 5870.

No bios will help as the backside chip that does the magic is different.

Wow, that's a lot, default being 1.125V. Haven't played with voltage yet, as it overclocks nicely even without it. Might have to some day if I want the 1GHz broken
