Benchmark Scores I dont have time for that.
I thought the stealth series was repackaged FSP's strapped up to put more out... that's why they are cheap. :/

OCZ stealth/game series are rebranded FSP PSU's yes. But FSP is a damn good brand. they provide parts for more manu's than you may think.

Err? Proof please, I can't find that. TX/HX both use Seasonic...

i had a OCZ gamextreme 700w been running fine for 3 years on a Q6600 780i board 8800GTS(G92 core) and 8GB of 800mhz mushkin. you got a dud. OCZ is a good company.

I ordered a OCZ StealthXStream 600W off of newegg cuz it was relatively cheap after rebates so I thought why the hell not? Costs the same as the Antec Neo ECO I was gonna get.

Boy was I wrong.. :slap:

During boot it was fine... ran TF2 for awhile and everything was A-OK!

Napoleon total war? Computer shuts off. Tries to start then cuts off. OSH- I turn the power switch on the back of the PSU quickly to off.

I probably got a dud unit but man. I don't think I will trust any other PSU company other than Antec/Seasonic.

At least OCZ's protection worked by shutting down instead of blowing up. Could have been worse I suppose... I wonder what would have happened if I put it in a Phenom II X6 system I am building in a week. Probably would have blown up and taken everything with it. Ugh :shadedshu

And a hard lesson was learned.

omg I just ordered one and its sitting at my house for a few days now im scared

I don't know what to say...; yes I do, but I won't.

To the OP: Either, you got a dud, which, is possibly or you had a power glitch; also possible. Or, something was amiss with the install.

OCZ has some very adequate power supplies.

It's fine for now. I just don't want it turning into a debate of which PSU is better.

You probably don't have to worry about anything. At least you know that it won't take out your computer right?

Ha. Yeah. It's sooo hard to install a power supply  I'm betting on dud. Like I said so many times I'm getting it replaced and giving it one more shot.

This was a bit ago so it seems this got resurrected and my question in the other thread is what happens when your PSU takes other components to death while this was more of a what happened? :wtf: dealio. It's just some thought I had that I didn't want to double post or anything. I'll keep it in mind though to consolidate questions that I may have.

And to the other guys- I've given this OCZ PSU another chance. Had Newegg switch to a replacement RMA.

No offense but I think you can only go with so much money for quality after a point you pay a ridiculous premium for incremental advantages. After the main filter cap is already of high quality there's only little to improve on to guarantee it doesn't light up. Say what you want Earthdog, but my Earthwatts PSU has been working quite well for me- the only complaint I have is that it uses a 80mm fan and there are no vent holes on the bottom so cooling is pretty much a nightmare now.

i noticed that this thread was older, and yeah i realized that one was dead and got resurrected. Do your best to keep the conversations to one topic, regardless.

As for the incremental gains... my last system was OC'd completely stable to 4.2GHz. I swapped my PC's when i got my 5870.

Taking my corsair PSU out and putting the OCZ gameXstream 700W PSU in, it wasnt stable at all. not at 4.2GHz, not at 3.8GHz... in fact, its only stable at 3.2Ghz with voltage boosts.

the incremental gains are bigger than they appear, getting a truly quality unit... i'd hate to think what my OC on that system would have done to a generic PSU.

half regret getting my HX850 now that I could have gotten an AX750... anyone want to trade a AX750 (when it comes out) for a HX 850 ? BNIB!!! :p

Though I don't see this as an example, I tend to see alot of people not consolidating their threads lol

I have a hard time believing the difference between an average/crap OCZ to Corsair adds a 1ghz OC o_O I feel better about spending alot on my PSU though :p

i was surprised too, but its because the voltages are lower all around, at load. i had to boost every voltage (CPU, ram, NB) to get 3.2GHz stable (and its a 3.16Ghz stock chip!)

because it didnt use 400W at desktop or gaming, ofc. quality over quantity.

OCZ is a mixed bag. they have great designs that seem to lack in QA sometimes. i'll always reccomend corsair over OCZ, a corsair 400W is better than an OCZ 550W, IMO (well, corsair is better than almost everyone in that regard)

An underestimated and great priced PSU is XFX... The XFX 750W specifically is awesome bang/buck and modular! Is comparable, (equal maybe even surpasses) the HX850W quality wise

Maybe there has been a problem at OCZ and their PSUs are all dud?

Hrm. Maybe I'll talk to Newegg and see if they can change it to a RMA full refund again. The thing that still bugs me is that the main filter cap is by OST... they're not a BAD company but they're not that great apparently and with a lot of PSUs dying by 2nd year.... :shadedshu

CORSAIR CMPSU-550VX 550W ATX12V V2.2 SLI Ready Cro...

I may just have to get that instead... should that be ample enough to run a Phenom II X6, 2 hard drives, 1 DVD-RW drive, and a Radeon HD 5770? It only has 1 12V rail but it's pretty beefy.... (granted most PSUs have one 12V rail that's split up and not actual independent ones)

It's only $10 more. (TX650) But do I really need 650W for a Phenom II system? is the real question

Oh and congrats. My roommate is a computer engineer and sees no problem with an OCZ, but you've officially managed to scare the daylights out of me with PSUs :)

EDIT: The 550W I have to pay for shipping. Might as well get the 650 if it's only a $5 diff.\

my housemate ran an i7 930. 6GB 1600Mhz ram and a 5870 off a 400CX for 2 weeks without an issue. they are awesome.

What happened after the 2nd week? :p lol j/k.

The board I am getting does not. It's a Phenom II X6 1055T that I plan on getting.

his 750HX came back from RMA (the fan wasnt spinning when it arrived, DOA)

look at the specs of my system. it doesnt go abvoe 350W measured at the wall.

When you consider that most of that is on the 12V rail and some on the 3.3v and 5v rails, get a PSU with at least 400W on the 12V rail (one rail preferably) - PSU's weaken over time, so headroom is great. That adds up to 33A on the 12V rail - which the 'cheap' should corsairs have.
