best 5770 to buy?

Hello everyone! I'm writing here because I'm going to change my 3850 ati video card, and I would need some suggestions. Since I have a budget of 150-160 euros, I was thinking to buy an ati 5770. My monitor has got a 1920 x 1080 resolution. What 5770 would you choose if you were in me? Atm I'm considering an "XFX HD5770 1GB GDDR5 XXX EDITION" for 153.51EUR, or an "HIS ATI HD 5770 IceQ 5 1GB" for 155,00 €. Have you got other models to propose? What 5770 card you would take? Will I notice significant performance improvement when I play, changing my 3850 with a 5770?

Ignore the branding, in terms of performance all 5770s are the same, the difference is in the warranty, typically you'd get at least 3 years warranty, XFX is known a life time warranty on their products but in all honesty I'd get the cheapest.

Jumping from 3850 to a 5770 is big jump, you'll notice a huge improvement, however @ 1920 x 1080 you might be asking too much, it depends on the game you're playing but that resolution is typically too much for it if you're playing the latest and greatest games. Saying that the key thing is that you actually upgrade to "something" and move from talk to action!

The Vapor-X is great but I'm not sure it will work with MSI Afterburner.

Following your suggestions atm I'm choosing between XFX HD5770 1GB GDDR5 XXX EDITION" for 153.51 euro and "MSI Hawk - Radeon HD 5770 1 Gb" at 169,99 euro. The XFX for the warranty and the assistance, the msi hawk for the work msi made with this video card. I'm still undecided between these 2 models, but I will definitly take a decision today I know the better choice would be a 5850, but in Italy I am not able to find it at lesser than 260-270 euro. So atm I'm going for a 5770. In the future I could decide to sell it to buy another ati video card.

EDIT: I've chosen to take the xfx, even because in the future I think I will sell it. The HD-577A-ZNDA model is the one with the heat sink with the shape "of a grave"? The closed one I mean right? I don't know if I'm buying the "open one" or the "closed one".

Get the hawk voltage control on the core and a very good cooler to boot. It is worth the extra money. Trust me it's is one of the few thats worth that little extra. XFX is nice but the cooler on the hawk is worth the difference and who will own a video card longer than 3 years.

You don't want the egg cooler, it won't have voltage control and it's ram will be Samsung and not the better overclocking hynix ram. With the Hawk you will get voltage control on the card for sure and you most likely will get the less overclocking Samsung ram, but you will get one hell of a cooler as a trade off. Also the egg shaped cooler is not a bad cooler it just signifies a non ref design with no voltage control. In-fact it's a very good little cooler, it's the rest of the card thats not very good.

In alternative I could save 15 euro (I found it at 155 euro) buying this one: http://www.hisdigital.com/un/product2-527.shtml but only if it's a good video card with a good cooler. Otherwise I prefer spendig a bit more, 15 euro are probably worth the difference

No problem thats a good card it does have the Samsung ram but it has core voltage control and the cooler on the card is better than both the ref cooler and egg cooler, but if all things were equal price wise the Hawk is the better deal. However, the price isn't the same so Asus it is.

Ugh, I absolutely hate my CUcores!! That cooler is such a POS :\ I can't blow a fan at them from the side because the main vent for the cooler is right out where I'd put a fan. The fans are loud as hell at anything over 50%, and they don't cool the chips for shit either I'm tempted to rig in 2 stock AMD AM3 heatsinks lol I won't but still, I'm debating on whether or not to remove the heatsinks, lap the copper slug and maybe apply some new (and hopefully better) thermal compound.

If you do get it, and notice a whine when the cards are under load, it's fine. It's called "Coil whine", and while it is annoying, it doesn't hurt anything (at least I'm pretty sure haha).

Also the voltage is only for the core, not the mem. To be fair my memory on both cards goes easily and stabily to 1395MHz from 1200MHz (same memory as on the 5870s, Samsung .40ns). Over that and it starts to become unstable and crashes the driver. But for memory rated at 1300MHz at 1.5v, that's not bad heh I've also found that undervolting the GPU helps offset the crappy heatsink. I can squeeze an OC out of 1.13v, which is not much lower from 1.2v, but manages to drop the load temp by 5c! So with the fans annoyingly loud @ 75-80% it only reachs 75c!

Oh and the fan, while it is a 3 wire to show RPM, they didn't pin the PCB for the 3rd pin :shadedshu I'm debating whether or not to try adding it myself.

My first 2 choices were the MSI HAWK and Sapphire Vapor-X. The XFX with the non-blower cooler, actually cools the card very well, so that's not a bad option.

I have to say I have the XFX HD5770 it is the best very cool and well it rocks as well . going from the GTX260 I can say yes there is eye candy and the performance is = to it as well . You will not be sorry .

Yep, listen to what Formula350 say about the CuCore, Have read people hitting 85-90C on those. It doesn't work as adverticed.

Mean while my Vapor-X hit's 63C in BC2 (with profile OC), think I got 67max with FurMark.

Only problem is that new 5770 Vapor-Xs are with blue PCB and that means no voltage control. Although I have it on mine haven't used, OCs fine on stock voltage for me. This one is absolutely silent idle and noise is very low on load, as the fan only rises to about 45% on auto (100% is loud, but no need for that)

So Vapor-X, Hawk or some black PCB egg cooler (those run even cooler if you remove the shroud).

I can get down to 66C loaded in FurMark (Kombuster version), but that is with the fans at like 85%, core undervolted and not clocked any more than 861MHz >_> TBH everything but the fan part is fine by me. I'm also a bit confused as to which card is exactly what in my CF config... In Afterburner, card 1 seems to be card 2 physically. And oddly enough that is the one that heats up the worst. Card 2 (or card 1, whatever it actually is) runs about 4-6C cooler If that is really card 1 physically, I don't understand why it would run cooler when it's fan intake is directly above the bottom card's memory chips...

The fan profile they included in the BIOS is just friggen HORRIBLE! Which given how loud the fan is, I understand it, but wouldn't that be a good reason as to redesign the damn thing's cooler?! -_-
