Laptop Won't Turn On / Won't Charge

Hey, basically I have this laptop which used to work fine... I think it's an Acer or ASUS, cant remember cos I haven't seen it in a while (okay I'll come clean it's girlfriends laptop so whatever!) but basically.. it won't turn on and it won't charge. She's bought a new charger for it (£50 as well) and it still doesn't charge

I tried to take the bottom off, removing all the screws blah de blah but I could only get the panel off to see the motherboard, I couldn't get the entire rear plate off which is a shame cos it would've helped quite a lot.

Anywhoooo... does anyone have suggestions as to what this might be?

Look up your laptop: look for service manual that should give you a break down on how it comes apart. Sounds like it might be your DC power jack. Can you play around with cord to get it to charge ?
Dosent explain not starting up thou.

Nah man, never charges ;(

I think the reason it doesn't start up is just cos it's out of charge... or so I would assume

I got a toshiba Tecra A6 - exact same thing happened, it turned out to be the battery.
Let me know what make it is and I might be able to sort out some spares (like the battery).
I'm local to you aswell, so maybe no postage if you need anything...

Maybe a pin on the battery is bent ?.
Does it turn on without the battery connected ?.

could be your battery or dc jack is messed up

try unpluging it and taking the battery out then plugin it in to see if it will turn on that way

u can check to see if the center pin on the dc jack on the back of the laptop is loose

worst case the system board might be dead i've had a number of laptops that just died with no explanation like that

You know, this maybe unrelated but i had a buddy and his laptop did the same thing and he almost throw it in the trash until i told him i would look at it. So i took it apart and couldn't find anything wrong but for giggles i unplugged the CMOS battery for about 1 hour and then reassembled and it turned on and started charging again with no problems.

It should turn on even if the battery is dead when you run it through a charger/psu.

I think it's a bad AC jack.

Have had similar problems. Was the CMOS battery, but believe it or not.. It cost's like 60$ for a new CMOS battery..

So do you suggest I take it out for an hour or so and put it back in and see what happens?

Wait, did you actually try to run it without battery? In my experience the main cause for a not booting laptop is a broken battery that causes a shortage. You should try to run the computer with the battery REMOVED and only the dc connected (sans battery!).

Yea I had a laptop that the battery was bad and if it was in the power cord would not work. Took out battery and power cord worked. Replaced battery and they both worked.
