i am thinking about getting a GTX460 or GTX465 but i don't know which one of them i should get

ino that the GTX460 is based on the new GF104 that uses less power than the old GF100 but it only has 336 cuda cores where the GTX465 has 352 cuda cores but i like the idea of the GTX460 for it's low power but yet again i don't know which to get.

i can get a Gainward GTX460 Golden Sample 1GB for around 303~305USD and a Inno3D GeForce GTX465 Retail 1.25GB for around 298~300USD.

but still won't the GTX465 do better when it comes to gaming in 1920x1080 and with PhysX 'cause it has 16 cuda cores more than the GTX460 or will some small amount of oc of the GTX460 do that i won't feel the difference between them?

and what games am i thinking of? i am thinking of Mafia 2 i have been looking forward to that one the most ^^;

from what iv herd, the GTX460 is faster then the 465 and uses less power/less heat.

if it was me i would get the 460 1GB version. when it drops in price get a 2nd one and run SLI for higher performance then the GTX480.

i don't do SLi or CrossFire that's a promise i made to myself, and on a Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3P it's not possible for SLi and i think my E8400 even at 4ghz will be a bottle neck for that...

The only reason I'd go with the 465 over the 460 is because it may be possible to unlock the 465 to a 470. Even so, I'd go with the 460.

u don't think that Nvidia had laser cut the GTX465 card so u can't do that?

'cause if a GTX465 1280mb is a down-clocked/re-named GTX470 1280mb that only has another bios and no cuda cores removed or anything than u would get quiet a nice performance and jump from 352 cuda cores to 448 cuda cores to you will begiven 96 cuda cores for free?

sorry but i wanna see that with my own eyes irl before i believe than when we are talking nvidia...

they did permanently disable them on most of them but some of nvidia's partners used GTX470's and flashed them with GTX465 bios's and sold them as GTX465's.

the only way to tell is to look at the memory chips on the cards pcb and make sure its the same amount as the GTX470(which you more than likely won't find)

This was the article I pulled that from: http://www.brightsideofnews.com/news/2010/7/16/unlock-geforce-gtx-465-into-a-gtx-470.aspx ..nothing more.

I think it would be ridiculous to buy a 465 for the reasons of unlocking or buying one all together. GTX 460 all the way.

and u think that, those cards are easy to get ur hands on? i don't actually believe that...

u can call be a fool if u want, but that's just what i believe.

Then why are you even asking? Any "fool" can look at a review and see which card is better.

Just got an MSI GTX 460 Cyclone 1GB today. I've never been happier with a video card purchase in my 10 years of PC building and gaming. Cool (28C idle, 55C load), quiet (nearly silent actually), compact, well made, and damn fast for the money. I haven't even tried OC'ing it yet. I've only benched one game so far - Fallout 3 with FRAPS. I had all quality options in game maxed and vertical sync on.

GTX 460 1GB @ 725 Mhz - Avg: 57.343 - Min: 25 - Max: 63
GTX 260 (216) @ 650 Mhz - Avg: 46.106 - Min: 30 - Max: 62
8800 GTX @ 621 Mhz - Avg: 35.442 - Min: 22 - Max: 48

The review of the card in TPU shows it as being 20% faster than a GTX 260 overall and I believe it. That one game was 24% for me (and a whopping 62% faster than the 8800 GTX that cost me $550 back in the day).
