In the UK, the nVIDIA card is £20-£30 more, so which would you go for?

Definitely the GTX 460,it's really proven itself to be a fantastic card. And if you get two in SLI, then you're set for a long while.:)

I actually had a 5770 at one point, and it was a great card. But now that the 460 is out and we have seen it's performance numbers both in game and in benchmarks, i would definitely consider that to be the best bang for buck at this moment.

the 460 hands down. the performance is pretty much just right under the 5850 - but the major selling point of the 460 is its price - £30-40 cheaper then a 5850. but in its defence...a 5850 is ludicriously overclockable and in many cases can will overclock to 5870 performance, making it a 5870 but without the 5870 price tag.

so the decision is yours to make. for value for money though, the 460 still comes top with bang for buck. but if you plan to overclock then the 5850 would be a great choice if you can afford to fork out the extra cash

I have a GTX465 sitting here and although it's a great card, it's power consumption is horrible comparatively speaking.

So in the sense compared, I would also compare it to a HD5830 to get the price in par.

But you do pickup physx for what it's worth and Cuda if you use anything that supports that.

i suppose that would be a sign to let him know not to get a GTX 465, but the GTX 460 outperforms the 465 at stock, and including avg oc's, the GTX 460 even further outperforms it(usually)

but yea i def point to the GTX 460, i own the HD 5770, great card, but in comparison...the GTX 460 is like 18-25% faster.

yea, depending on your res, 1680x1050 or higher, the 768mb version is sometimes 10-15fps slower.

I would definitely spring for the GTX 460 768mb if I were in your shoes. It performs a bit better than the 5830, and when OC'd can get close to the 5850 on 1680x1050 or lower resolutions. But if you can get a 1gb version for a bit more, then I'd definitely go for that.

Thanks guys. Forget about the GTX460 768mb, IM looking at the 1GB model now ;) Does anyone know how well it runs at 1920 x 1080?

Or is 1440 x 900 still ok for gaming? (I ask this because Ive been offered a cheap 19" widescreen ViewSonic LED LCD monitor with a 2ms response time, but the max res is 1440 x 900)

I have a 1440x900 monitor and it's great for gaming, but i would still rather get a 1080p monitor(probably because im running 2x GTX 470's). If it's really cheap, then go for it, but if you'd rather have a more clear and crisp display, then I'd personally go for a monitor with a higher res.

1440x900 is fine, though a GTX 1gb would run 1080p no problem, and look a tad nicer tho I find the ability to be able to turn the gfx settings and AA up better than upping the res imo. GTX 460 1gb all the way, thats my next planned upgrade! :D

Well, the monitor is new with warranty and he only wants £70 (but I may be able to get him lower lol)

GTX 460 Hands down.... you can compare the GTX 460 stock to a 5830... and overclocked to a GTX 470/5850.....and even higher then them if you find the right card.

A 5770 while it's an awesome card... and I think you would be happy with it.... It's just not in the same performance bracket.

Take it form someone who has owned almost all the cards listed above (Expect the 5830) and who currently is playing with a couple of GTX 460 768's.

Thanks guys. Forget about the GTX460 768mb, IM looking at the 1GB model now Does anyone know how well it runs at 1920 x 1080?

I actually own a couple of EVGA GTX 460 768 SC's.... and In SLI I have now problem playing any game out there at 1920x1080.

And with one.... I have no problem playing any game out there at it's highest levels...at 1920x1080 (With exception of Crysis,Metro 2033, Excetra excetra....)
But even with those two games... on a single card.... I am getting decent playable performance with most eye candy on.

With Crysis I can get Decent playable FPS on High settings and 2 xAA
On Metro I can get decent playable FPS... on DX11 settings 0xAA and DOF off

So I would expect you to get pretty decent results then too with the 1Gb Version.

Warning though.... from people with these cards.... it seems that the better the CPU you own... the better the GTX 460 works as well.

Just look around at some of the people benching them. And trying out the performance.

i can see and feel the difference in 3DMark Vantage from my HD5770 1GB and to my GTX460 1GB, i score more point with my GTX460 than i did with my HD5770 and that's even if i run 999mhz on the core

GTX 460. That GF104 GPU is amazing, makes me remind of the old G92 that comes from the 8800GT

In the UK, the nVIDIA card is £20-£30 more, so which would you go for?
