Well guys, Im thinking about coming back to PC gaming :D But, Im going to give myself a limit for a budget gamer. The limit is £600 and the site I will be using is ebuyer in the UK. Any advice/full build info would be great.

This is what Ive come up with so far (please remember, Ive been out of the gaming PC loop for sometime, 3 years to be exact  ) It has to have a Bluray ROM and be mATX.

CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition
GPU: MSI HD 5770 1GB
MoBo: ASUS M4A88TD-M EVO
RAM: G-Skill Ripjaw 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 1600MHz
PSU: Corsair 650W TX Series
ROM: LiteOn iHOS104 4x BD-ROM
HDD: Samsung HD103SJ Spinpoint F3 1TB
Case: Coolermaster Elite 342

I wasnt sure if I should be looking at the GTX460 768mb instead of the HD5770 (hence I mad a post earlier about it)

Thanx in advance ;)

get the 460 it overclocks to 470 performance and beyond id change out to some cheaper ram just make sure they do tight timings example cl 6 at 1333mhz will give some nice latency improvements with a good NB overclock unless that board allows you to run 1600mhz natively with a divider which i doubt. overclocked it will also catch the 5850 and for much less granted the other gpus go further but you get the idea

Swap the PSU out, 650w is overkill, there is a nice BeQuiet 550w for £49.99 that would suffice and then some, and also get the 1gb GTX 460 instead of the 768mb aside from that, nice looking build, 650w is overkill though and BeQuiet are a good brand. You also added a BR drive, why? no games are on BR and not likely to be for the foreseeable due to compatibility, unless you plan on playing BR discs get a DVD-R to save another £30

If have money go for GTX 460. Many would suggest i5 for gaming as faster in games. And if you want little CPU futerproofing consider PII 1055T.

The GTX 460 is much faster than the 5770. I think a PII 1055t isn't much more expensive than
the PII 955 B.E, it will be a bit faster and have 6 cores, great for editing or using programs like blender! In total it's a nice setup, but if you go with a GTX 460, keep the 650w since it requires two 6-pin connectors. As you can see the 5770 gets munched by the GTX 460. :D

i5 might be a bit faster true so is i7 but end of the day minimum frame rate is the same across just about every machine these days and since minimum is of far greater importance gpu still matters most its a given fact tho quad core or better is mandatory that said 4 gigs 1333mhz cl 7 ram should do the trick for a bit less add in a 550w psu of your choice u should be able to grab a 1055T and they will overclock to 4ghz at lower volts then a regular AMD quad they also have a better memory controller and use less volts to reach higher clocks and the 1055T can keep pace in many situations with a i7 920 while the 955 cannot

That would be a pretty sweet build :D Would I benefit from a 6 core CPU? Or would I be able to trim a few quid off by sticking with the quad core? TBH, Im annoyed that I need to put a BD ROM in it when I have a spare Pioneer SATA DVDRW sat here lol (I will use it aswell anyway). But Im selling my PS3 because I only use it for Blurays and XvidHD now.

the 6 core 1055t will overclock further then a 955be it will run cooler use less voltage for overclocks etc its just a better CPU in general also the NB will overclock further ie 3000mhz NB instead of the usual 2600-2800 with a cpu overclock of 3800 meaning better memory latency etc and as i said Phenoms benefit from latency more then they do speed

example 1333mhz CL6 with a 2600-2800nb is a good combination because it offers the best latency and overall it offers the best throughput

the 6 core cpu will also in theory last you longer as even a core 2 duo from 4 years ago offers the same gaming performance for the most part meaning cpus are not the current bottlenecks yet as software hasnt caught up that said GTA IV will benefit from 6cores and thats about it for now but in general its only a few quid and its the better cpu its like debating dual cores vs quadcores years ago the Q6600 still soldiers on while its dual core brethren finally start to fall off the deep end

Cool, I get what your saying. AT first I was thinking about taking a chance and buying a dual core in the hope that I could unlock the other 2 ;) ie: the AMD Phenom II X2 555 Black Edition 3.2GHz Socket AM3 6MB Cache Retail Box Processor

Or pII x2 550 3.1ghz like mine :toast: though I did pay £80 for it, which is still a lot less than the x4 equivalent of the 955 :D

PS: how well does the GTX460 1GB run at 1920 x 1080 ?

Very well, my 5770 copes well at 2048x1152 and the 460 is a fair bit better than the 5770, only game I have struggled on is Metrto 2033, that includes Crysis

I would go with the ASUS M4A87TD EVO because it doesn't have any crappy Integrated graphics and its a normal sized ATX board instead of microATX.
Asus M4A87TD EVO 870 Socket AM3 8 Channel Audio AT...

Personally i would get a second hand 5770, the GTX460 is £180 but if your buying brand new only spend the extra.
Brand new the X6 1055T is a good choice because its only £40 more than a X4.
The Sammy F3 Hard Drive is great, the Xiggy case is good for the price there are better cases but you'd be paying extra which i wouldn't.

Your missing a CPU cooler, i would just put up a WTB thread and see if anyone has a Xigmatek s1283. May need to get Thermal paste id get Arctic Cooling MX-3.

EDIT: Forget that motherboard recommendation you need mATX go with crazyeyesreaper Gigabyte GA-880GM-UD2H.
