New Build For A Beginner Any Tips?

Mobo : This is where it gets tricky.. I dont plan on Cross fire i just want ONE powerful card... I chose out three motherboards that I think are pretty decently priced and come with a lot of nice features

1) AsRock 880GMH ASRock 880GMH/USB3 AM3 AMD 880G HDMI USB 3.0 Micro...

2) AsRock 770 Extreme3 ASRock 770 EXTREME3 AM3 AMD 770 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0...

3) MSI 880GM MSI 880GM-E43 AM3 AMD 880G HDMI Micro ATX AMD Moth...

RAM : G.Skill 4Gigs

G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333...



As for case and PSU i will get a Coolermaster combo deal either Cm storm scout or HAF 922...

so.. I need your help on the rest is this set up decent? i dont need it for crysis or anything EXTREME i dont want a 480 or a i7 980X lol but for a moderate COD player is this a good build? any help would be nice ty


also could you guys refer me to a GOOD CPU HSF? since that CPU is OEM?

Your build choices seem pretty decent but i would go with the MSI motherboard

The Ram choice is fine

Plus I would change that CPU if you can maybe, depending on your budget

I dont c the point in get a AMD quad core for 140... its kinda pointless i could get the x3 the unlock rate is monstrous on those chips... i could get possibly get a x4 and if not then a x3 is still kick ass...

less then 50$? - - for a CPU HSF

That's not correct. AsRock has more QC and MSI if you buy the right board is more known to give better OC's.

If you live near a microcenter you can even pick your batch number! Just call them or go there and request a certain batch number. This should raise your odds of getting a good unlocker!

The best bang for buck heatsink I've found is the ARCTIC COOLING Freezer 7 which goes for as cheap as $20 sometimes.

I have a Sunbeam CCTF 120mm which claims $25 AR but it's been over a month and no word yet from them... Still at $40 this is one of my favorite heatsinks of all time. It cools like the air-cooling champs in the $50+ range.

You can sometimes find the CM Hyper 212 Plus for very cheap to, around $25 sometimes.

The trick to getting a good deal is not to be in a rush. It took me about 4 months to accumulate the hardware for my latest build and I'm still augmenting it!

The MSI has more caps per mosfet. I would still stay away from lower end AsRock boards.


The 5770 is a good card. If you wanted to spend a bit more the next logical step up would be a GTX 460.

Sure do, spend the extra wad and buy a GTX 460. It's worth it.
