hi, i will be getting a GTX 460 1GB tomarrow, but im not sure which brand i should buy.

between MSI Cyclone 1GB and gigabyte versions, which one is better?

which one is cooler and has better overclocking potential?

because i will be doing some heavy overclocks on the first day.

i wont use furmark or any other benchmarking software for stability.

instead i will use my games to test. so that way i can reach my highest overclock depending on my games.

Thanks.

both look good, but the MSI one with the Twin Frozr cooler (correct me if I'm wrong) cools better and quieter than the Gigabyte one. Based on reviews of both.

From what I've read the MSI Cyclone is a beast and that better be true since i just bought one. (should be here tomorrow actually) I believe MSI Afterburner comes with stress test software too.

tough choice, but I'm pretty sure from the reviews I've seen the MSI one clocks a decent whack higher on the core/shaders, but the gigabyte's cooler is much larger and can cool very effectively while staying super quiet.

so whisper quiet + still very decent OC = Gigabyte
maximum OC + bit of noise = MSI

Well, you asked for it - you can have the 460 with the cyclone cooler and the 465 with the Twin cooler

Edit: GB just announced a new 460, with Twin Frozr for release next week.

MopeyMartian: oh, so u gonna get that card tomarrow?

so maybe i will wait a day or two before i go and buy it to get your feedback on overclocking.

can u please overclock it as high as possible with out stress testing it but only use your games to test for stability issues and report back????

see if u can overclock to like 930mhz core with voltage and a high memory clocks.

see how high u can get them, and only test with games.

i will be buying this one: http://www.vgadownload.com/wp-conte...I-N460GTX-Cyclone-768D5OC-GeForce-GTX-460.jpg

and looks like somebody with that MSI card could play the original crysis at the average of 33fps on all very high settings at 1920*1200 res with overclocks. http://i496.photobucket.com/albums/rr330/babylonfallen/bench2nosligtx460.png

it looks good. and we gonna get even more fps if we can overclock higher than that. what do u think :)?

im guessing we can still overclock that card higher than that and we can get at least 5fps more out of it which will make it 38fps or nearly 40fps average :D.

i will get more than that since my monitor is an old CRT at 1600*1200. yay.

In any case, I'd go with MSI. A bit of noise for a better OC potential and temps is a good trade I think.

i will push it to see if i can get 40fps or more on average on very high settings at 1600*1200 res with 2xAA or 4xA with no AF.

i think it will be possible.

finally i can play crysis on very high settings at decent speed.

MSI is non-ref? Be nice to have a ref for a waterblock but these cards don't exactly scream for water cooling either.

I've read the ASUS DirectCU models are better than average for overclocking as well. They also have a bit of noise (like the MSI) as the RPMs ramp up. Like most they're very quiet at idle though.

Go with MSI, i bought one recently and it's running incredibly stable considering the games i'm throwing at it - stable in terms of temperature and fps that is.

What resolution and what games?

IceCreamBarr: yeah, but some other benchmarks could overclock core and memory higher .

remember, every chip is different.

i wont be cautious or hesistant when i overclock.

i will just clock the core to 940mhz and try the games.

if i get artifacts i back down a bit.

also i have Q8400 at 3.6ghz. u think its gonna bottleneck the card?

even at 36fps average playing crysis on very high settings and high resolution is amazing, considering just a while ago the game was unplayable even with a GTX 285.

now its much more playable.

I'll see what I can do but keep in mind that I only have an E6750 and I don't know if that'll bottleneck it in any way. As far as games go the toughest thing I have right now is STALKER COP which seems to do a pretty good job of stressing GPUs.

cant u overclock ur cpu higher?

i think that card will bottleneck ur cpu :/.

i think u will be limited by ur CPU.

i have a few games, Metro 2033, Kane Dog days, Just Cause 2, Split/Second, BF2.

i finished all of them, but would like to start over with the new GTX 460 1gb.

im gonna try them all.

i have GTS 250 512mb right now.

luckily i bought a Q8400 and clocked it to 3.6 , from C2D e4500.

i think u should upgrade to a Quad core. any quadcore is good. games are starting to use 4 cores.

yeah the E6750 @ 3.2ghz may well bottleneck the card, however it will be very dependant on the title. It should only be apparent at lower resolutions, if you run 1680x1050 or higher and have AA+AF on it should'nt hold a single card back much, SLi would be a different story tho.

I'm upgrading the rest of my system in a few weeks, so bye-bye bottleneck.

That card is seriously ugly too man. Not like you spend much time staring at that side of it but still.

overclocking is a MUST for a gtx 460 1gb.

this card is like an sleeping giant. it shines when overclocked.

based on some benchmarks i have seen, i am sure that with proper overclocking a gtx 460 1gb can match or even be faster than a gtx 470.

i should get my card tomarrow or on thursday. i will report back.
