if you are interested to sell at a decent price (g5 tower), I'd be in to it. possible the mini depending on what it's worth...

the only thing it is really good for for most users is music playing and basic web browsing. it has no very good Media Center components - and I doubt you are thinking of keeping it around as a main work machine.... so the options are pretty limited..

i don't remember if those have intel or not - you might do bootcamp and turn it into a pc with a cool case

hardly doorstops...
just not conventional for average pc users. there's nothing in them that makes them necessary if you have a decent pc... I just love to screw with mac stuff.

Yes I know what they are I just see no use for them . They are hardly pc and Mac. Pfft ..mac is not my bag . Cant use them for much at all . Music and internet is about all they are good for . Playing moves on as well , But I have a TV to play my movies on it has a bigger screen too and better sound . so all in all I think the door stop idea is viable .

Who even has that much music ? The G5 could be gutted out and put PC parts in it has a nice case .

i personally see no real use for them - like I said though screwing with macs has been a hobby of mine.... i've built rebuilt and hackintoshed macs, g3, g4s, old PPCs ... I just like the test of getting it all running perfectly... then i put it in a closet and never use it

I personally have over 40gb ... I know a few people who have upwards of 200+gb .... plain mp3s are hard to get that many you want - but for FLAC and RAW files from concerts they record - people can DEFINITELY have a huge amount of music...

i've been wanting to build a pc in a g5 case for awhile now - but when there is a fully working MAC system inside it... i'd rather screw with that.

find a broken one if you want to cannibalize it and build a pc inside...

WOW I only have like 10Gbs of music . I don't listen to it much on my computer . I guess that is why I have a stereo . I use mine for games and the internet mostly . Hey can mac's play PC games yet ? LOL ..

lol not in mac os - but if you have a intel mac you can install windows on it for gaming.... there are some mac games through STEAM (since they started their new thing a few months ago) .. but blockbusters leave you SoL.... valve games at least

yeah hard drive space is so cheap it's nothing to keep music... to be honest I listen to 10% of what I have on a regular basis ... but every once in awhile...

my pcs do everything. I don't watch TV , i download it. I don't have a stereo - just a PC with mediamonkey and a good set of speakers. .... and i'm still finding more and more things it can do for me

that's why i love computers ... they can do almost anything! that's why i need a beast - so i can do it at once.
I'll have a tv show on monitor # 1, file folders on 3, and adobe suite or whatever I am working with on 2 (middle) with music playing in the background controlled through media keys.

i know you can use BOINC - so i'm sure it's possible... whether there is a client or not I have not idea...
and they tend to use NVidia cards as well.... rarely see AMD in an Apple.

looking more into it, the G5 would be an older PPC model, not intel, not capable of running anything past Jaguar (10.4)
so for sure, it is old, not very upgradeable, and not really useful for anything past web browsing and office... maybe some adobe. but MailMan has and should use his better PC to do those things anyway.

I still don't think it's worth so little as to be a door stop or boat anchor.
purely based on sentimental reasons I would def buy it from you MM if the price is reasonable.

I still have an old , dual 800mhz 784mb ram G4 I screw around with,even the last few days I have been using to create hackintosh install discs.... I'm also getting it ready to give to my parents as a browsing machine.... though i really like having a PPC mac around - so MM, again, please want to sell it to me

Yeah you could gut the G5 and do a PC mod but those things hold their value pretty damn well compared to old, slow PCs so I'd put it on Craigslist first for $300 and see if anyone bites.

And btw digi NV is more common in the models of the past 2 years max but prior was pretty even between ATI and NV cards, at least in the towers.

My uncle has two mac mini's, they have a 1.2GHz CPU in them ( Not intel or AMD) but the ummm is it pal cpu? whatever there called back then. Anyway a 80GB sata HDD, ATi GPU and maybe 512MB of ram, going by memory anyway.

Good for just the net or music yes, no gaming.

Yeah that is what I thought . If you could find more ram it might be worth it . Kinda old and out of date is all . Computers are not a good investment . Although some may consider them collectors items as well they are old , Still work and can run the old tech . SO yeah there is some value there yes . I hope so .
I would like to know just what CPU's they had in them I am going to do some research . ( Forgot / Didn't care to follow . ) Can't remember who made them .. :confused:
