If you can mount it on the wall, it is worth it. Sure, Apples suck. If you want to just browse the web and that's all, a 30" Apple would be fine.

it's funny because even on apple's own site the reviews for this apple cinema display weren't all that great. the response times were complaints as well as the glossyness of the screen was hard for others to cope with.

there are some NECs that are 300 some on new egg I think and there's a 500 dollar one that has pretty good reviews. I gotta bring up the favs from the other pc to find out the specifics but those are much cheaper and use the IPS panels. however some of them have a 14 ms response time so that would suck for gaming.

apple cinema displays have like 12-16 ms response time which is not good for gaming. my samsung syncmaster (non IPS but still awesome) is 2ms G2G response time. my model is P2350 if you wanna know. I game a good bit and I also do graphics design, so its a fair balance the contrast ratio is actually pretty good on this one. I fell in love when I saw it at the shop I went to.

I went from an LG 19inch w1952TQ and I notice a lot more detail in images and I notice some retouching I need to redo now becuase the LG didn't pick it up LOL.

But Samsung makes pretty good displays. so does viewsonic and some LGs. I prefer those three brands, however some video editors recommended Planar, BenQ, and HannsG as well as Panasonic Pro. You may want to give the latter brands a try.

Ignore manufacturer response ratings for most products. No manufacturer uses the same shades of grey to do their testing. No panel is actually capable of 2ms. That's a bold faced lie.

Look to good reviews to get an idea of capabilities, and ignore ms ratings unless they are b-w-b or w-b-w ratings. Besides, this is a 30" panel we are talking about. none of them are speed demons, but they are good enough for any non-competitive gaming.

And those cheaper NECs are not 30" 2560x1600 displays.

I would personally hold out to find one in good shape, but a used 30" Apple display in the $600-700 range is leagues better than anything you can buy new in that price range.

I would also expand my search to include the Dell and Gateway 30" models tho.

Nah, but still they are six thousand dollars at most retailers. I do not like how they throw a bunch of crap in there to make it expensive, and they don't release a cheaper model without the extra Panasonic camera crap and caption box crap that most people do not use. They have a bunch of fluff features to knock up the price. I don't know how good they actually are though.

Apple displays are pretty damn nice but to be honest I'd sooner take a smaller Dell for the same price and have a warranty with it.

Who really needs a 30" monitor any way when for that money you could buy a TV*??

* - Obviously the TV you get wont be as nice but it will be bigger and I know what I'd sooner have lol

Everything but not Samsung! They have the biggest input lag on market (+/-90ms). Samsung TV are unusable for gaming. You should go for full led Sharp 705 or Philips 5605h.

Well I already had the Dell 3007 monitor so this is not a must. I pass on the TVs because none of them offer 2560x1600 resolution.

for the original price being 1600$ it's a good deal, I just worry about buying a monitor that's prone to the blue line of death without having a warranty. My uncle just had to replace his 24" cinema display for that reason.

Why are you laughing about Dell 30" monitors? They are very good. You are lumping together an entire brand based on a couple shitty releases. You should be comparing on a per model basis. Look up reviews on their 30" panels before commenting.

Any 30" 2560x1600 monitor from the same era has the same LG panel in it. Dell, Apple, Gateway and HP only differ in casings, backlights and electronics, and all have roughly the same quality of electronics and backlights, so you should pick based on price, features and condition.

the only monitors that i didnt like were from acer. the back-lighting is garbage. although it may have been different in other ones.

Acers are crap. had one, Still works but the backlighing is making act like an old tv. Flcikering lines headaches ouch.
