it seems like AMD have really changed bart names to 6800, here's a catalyst shot from the Taiwanese website xfastest. They say that the 6750/6850 have the same performance of a 5830 which is disappointing. It's still a rumor.

Another rumour, this time from chiphell, is a shot of half of a 6800 card

bios is dated September 13th. I doubt it's real, as the bios should have been ready prior to that...AMD has already demoed these cards to those that actually need to see them during the Fusion event that began on the 13th-15th. If the bios was put on the card then, it was rushed for the event, which would explain poor performance.

BARTS PRO has roster pipe of 32 while 5830 rops only 16...do you believe 16rops can beat 32 rops? plus the ALU performance and number are pretty much not what 5830 can compare.. that catalyst was came along with that vontage/crysis bench and is proved to be hoax and all these were already proven in september 6th that was someone in chiphell using oc cypress in benchmark.

Nope man :) you are probably talking about the gpu-z pic, this catalyst shot is fresh and the bios date is 13/9 and i don't confirm that it's real. i just transfered the info.

I still call this pic bull$hit, just like I did in the Barts thread. I believe if it was real it would show the manufacturer as "Built by AMD", not "Built by ATI". AMD has totally done away with the ATI name with the 6000 series. The vendor ID would be encoded in the card as AMD.

I can make my card a 6870 too. All I need to do is change vendor ID's in the Bios or driver.

That Catalyst shot directly contradicts the GPUz shot from last month as far as device id is concerned.

You mean the one that was said to be fake? The one with a Powercolor giveaway tab, which meant it was GPUz 4.4, which means no HD6000 support?

Uh, no.

I mean the one that says 6800 series and has the correct device id for the 6800 series and also the one that W1zzard himself said:

nothing i can see in the gpuz part of the screenshot that suggests it's fake

Ah, ok. I didn't remember that one.

That one said nothing though. :(

Only that Cayman XT is 28% faster than Cypress XT on Vantage Extreme, which means literally nothing, considering that for example the GTX285 is as fast as the HD 5850, and HD5870 is as fast as GTX480 on Vantage Extreme GPU score. And we all know that in both cases the real performance difference is around 20%.

480ALU require 3RBE which it will not be 256bit, if jupiter is 8x2 1RBE setup with 128bit and barts is (8x4) 2 RBE with 256bit then cayman has 3 RBE which setup will end up to be 8x6 and will be 384bit bus...logically said..

if 48 rops suggest to be with 256bit bus it will end up only 2RBE or 4RBE to allow 256bit bus pass on the setup but since cayman is confirm to be 3 RBE so 12x4 do not seen to happen.

that gpuz is confirm to be photoshoped and vontage score was done by extreme oc cypress with 1600mhz ram and very high core clock. needless to be discuss.

But what it hints at that yeilds are bad on Cayman(most like due to die size), so they have shifted the chips around in the naming to make up for a lack of a "high-end" cayman SKU.

what do you mean lack of "high-end" GPU ? it still have cayman, but maybe there are no dual GPU card (maybe because the heat) so AMD Shifted the naming scheme up, or the bart perform so amazing and out perform HD 5850/70,

if amd just want to rebrand and sell the same card that doesn't even change anything...that is it for them. their last change to fight back and reverse the revanue and reputation. they should realize fighting aside with console ported and tablet PC will be dead end as eventually people will go on for performance again. if amd choose not to launch new gpu just because waiting for new gen console come out will be the stupidest thing they ever do and give all their market share back to nV again.

fusion and SOC will not replace the performance market. even with many feature like touchable screen....they are for average noob exclusively and whoever claim average market has 50% of market share had ignore a serious fact- they don't aften spent money on electronic product and they may end up purchase a SOC console and last 5~7 years and rather spend money with family and other social network/dating, while high end market has faster refresh rate(they change computer more often). take average market will be suicidal.

yeah these 50% are hardly going to buy a new pc in the next few year after they had purchase one while enthusiast will change part even few month. you do realize in the last 2 decade enthusiast dominating the market while average people never interest on computer, especially female market. now they may expanding more consumer base by introduce console like hardware and so fancy feature to amuse average house wife and girls. my mom for example she kept saying how wonderful win7's touchable feature that's on a tiny tablet pc and willing to throw another bulk just because they look cute while refuse to let me get herself a new desktop(her was p4 1.7ghz, P4m900, 512mb ram...etc) because she say desktop don't look attractive...needless to say, they just seem to be driven by sensation that logical fact.

No those NVIDIA specs. ATI does not use 1536MB and 384-Bit, they use 256-Bit or 512-Bit with 1GB or 2GB.

What site said that?

Considering they are still using the 40nm process, im not to sure if this lineup of cards will be a significant jump in performance overall. All we can do is hope.

but it have different kind of SP, just look at 7900 GT vs 880GT it have same process but the different are like night and day.

so maybe the change from 4+1 shader to 4 medium shader will bring phenomenal performance gain

The 7900 GT was running a 90nm process while the 8800 GT was on a 65nm process, the architecture is much different to, so that contributes to it performing better of course.

I'm just saying, i hope this isn't just a slight change in direction for them and insist on only slightly beefing up this architecture.

if cayman is having 480 ALU (aka 1920sp) and 3RBE(48 roster) then it will have to be 384bit. in order to be 256bit bus or 512bit bus the roster and RBE most be even number like 16/32/64. since it's rumore to be 48 roster it is impossible to have 48 rops unless the setup config change from 8x4(barts) to 12x4 instead of 8x6(caymen)....but then again it will have to stay in 2 RBE as well.

i hate to say this but either stay at 256bit bus or go for odd number is just stupid..i would put money on cayman to be double of barts

I mean I don't see it possible that they only use Cayman for one SKU alone. The chip would have to be really nerfed to be used in just one card, as 100% yields are not possible.

seems awefully close to the NDA expiring to not have anything more concrete leaked.... AMD must be incredibly tight lipped on this one, or not have them ready.... I think the former.

Wait until you see who does reviews on launch day. Those people have cards now, if NDA expires on 18th(most often reviewers are given 2-3 weeks to do review, AFAIK, but I'm no reviewer).

i mean 8800 GTX

here from wikipedia :
As of September 2007, the G80 was the largest commercial GPU ever constructed. It consists of 681 million transistors covering a 480 mm² die surface area built on a 90 nm process. (In fact the G80's total transistor count is ~686 million, but since the chip was made on a 90 nm process and due to process limitations and yield feasibility, NVIDIA had to break the main design into two chips: Main shader core at 681 million transistors and NV I/O core of about ~5 million transistors making the entire G80 design standing at ~686 million transistors).

so yes its just architectural different with the same process
