On the non-standardized coolers they can run fine without a fan. Additionally since its a occupies an additional slot it creates more surface area to dissipate heat without a fan.

I don't think there is a high end card out rught now that wouldn't overheat if the fan was stopped completely. Even the generally lower heat producing ATi cards are running at 85+°C with the fan running at a reasonable clip, stop the fan they will overheat.

And chances are the heatsink on this card will be made of copper instead of aluminum like the dual slot cards, which will cool the card a lot better.

F*cking finally, Sparkle to the rescue! :rockout: Now I can upgrade this stupid Dell E520's GeForce 7300LE to something more acceptable, which will only take single-slot graphics card due to the case's quirky design.

You guys think this could be a good card for physx in my ati system? My last pci-e slot only has room for a single slot card, or atleast a card that dont take two pci spaces in the back.

I'd use something that consumes less power and puts out less heat. A GT240 is a perfect card for PhysX.

Ya, i've never understood this kind of design, why put the fan there if it's just going to be blowing the hot air back into the case?

Because it's not that with the fan on its rear, the cooler is going to push air out of the case (it's a single-slot card with no rear exhaust vents). So it makes largely no difference.

Yea this is really the perfect 450. From the size of the card, i am sure it doesn't draw that much power. Maybe 90w?

I wouldn't spend over 100 bucks for just a physx card. I would buy a simple nvidia card just for physx, gt 240 is best.

If anything on a single slot card this fan placement makes more sense to me, if it's blowing at the bracket then would it not give more resistance than if it blows out the other side and at the same time it would be blowing over the vrm's helping to cool them.
Also if the case it's in can't handle the heat it's putting into it then i think it needed better ventilation anyway.

I can't wait to see some reviews as a single slot nvidia card would be perfect for getting my htpc folding.

Yes, but with the fan the way it is now, it is blowing directly against the airflow coming from the front fan of most cases. Resistance should be about the same. However, with the fan the current way it disrupts airflow in the rest of the case.

Our complaints have nothing to do with being able to hanle the heat buildup.

Additionally, if someone is buying thie card they are doing so because they need a single slot solution. That means there will be a card in the slot under the video card. With the fan in its current placement, it is almost guaranteed to be blocked, even by short cards. The other alternative is the card is going in an ITX case which only has room for one card. But most ITX cases have a vent under the PCI slot to allow a little airflow out.

Very good points, i think I'm getting too used to running without a case so I'm starting to forget the basics  I don't remember the last time i saw a case without an intake that blew towards the cards and i should have thought about the fan being blocked as well, i always try and space my cards out to give the fans good airflow :slap:

I need to go sit in the dunce's corner and think about how stupid my comments were

They aren't stupid, they make sense from one point of view, and if you don't have a fan in the front(a lot of people don't) then your point makes more sense than mine. There are also a lot of ITX cases with just abismal airflow and no vent for the air to escape if the fan blew the way I want it to, but then again I wouldn't be buying those pieces of trash.

True but i was thinking about one for my HTPC and it has a fan blowing in from the front thats off to the side a little, so would just push all the hot air at the ram and cpu and there is a card in the next slot so they are things i really should have thought about for my own use never mind others, although the card is a tiny abit pci-e wireless card so would not block it by much.
