MSN messenger 9 problems

Ever since the stupid Windows Live Essential 2011 update, the new msn 9 has kept on disconnecting.

I un-installed it and downloaded MSN 8.5, I go to install it and it either says a previous version of msn is already installed (which isn't true) or it says I can't login due to the fact there's a newer version that I need to download.

Any ideas?

clear your temp folder and recycle bin. Also you may want to run a reg cleaner when you are done with those folders.

You may want to check the Windows KB updates and see, if there are any for the msn 9.
You might need to un-install them, too.

I ran the reg cleaner and tried installing msn 8.5 and got it to work!!! Thanks man, much appreciated.

Microsoft is focusing too much effort on trying to "beat Apple". It never will (in those markets). But it is causing sufficient distraction that they are dropping the ball on their own core products. Time for some heads to roll. Needs new management. The mess if IE7 and IE8 kept me on IE6 for too long... until Chrome came and filled the gap. I was a die hard IE6 user, and now I love Chrome and do everything web in it.

Same is true for MS mail and messenger products. The way they purposely let Outlook Express rot was strategic failure. Moved on to Thunderbird. No, I am not buying the overbloated cumbersome over windowed Outlook product.

MSN is bigger than facebook among the people I socialize with. We also use it as ways of communication at my job.

Yea i hated it with in the first 10 seconds of installing it. Uninstalled it and went back to the previous version.

I have found that alot more people now just use face book to chat and ditched MSN, sad.

I actually like the new MSN... not that different then the older versions if you put it in the "compact" mode

Aha............ thank you, the thing has been pissing me off for the last few days since I upgraded, I also use MSN in my job but am always logged in (as offline) when on my home pc too as I have had the same hotmail address for 8-9 years :rockout:

MSN is still big around here, with facebook being second place.

FB is popular because unlike MSN, parents havent figured out how to read their messages - whereas MSN is easy to set the PC to record chat logs and such.

(and yes, i know this first hand from fixing some young colleagues at works PC's - even at 19-20, their parents still read their chat logs)
